I would go ahead and count it if that happened to me—you clinched all of the route that existed at the time, and it's not like you would see anything new by going back.

Don't tell Rothman! (Personally I would probably count it as a "sight clinch". Not too different than getting off and on at a diamond interchange on an Interstate highway for gas.)
dlsterner:
The Travel Mapping site shows me with 320 100% clinched routes (lots of short state routes in the area). Rather than enumerate them all, I thought it might be fun to list my extremes (not counting spurs or bannered routes):
2di, Longest: I-81 (859 miles)
3di, Longest: I-476 (132 miles)
2di, Shortest: I-87(NC) (13 miles)
3di, Shortest: I-381 (1.15 miles)
2dus, Longest: I have none.
3dus, Longest: US 340 (155 miles)
3dus, Shortest: US 192 (76 miles)
US State, Longest: FL 20(Blountstown) (138 miles)
US State, Shortest: VA 79 (0.17 miles, about 300 yards)
