Coming south, a couple of times I've encountered a traffic jam on the 5 Mile Grade, and gotton off at the truck brake check area, where there's a sneak path onto the old Golden State Highway.

Where has the FHWA prohibited the use of HAWK signals? They are listed on page 728-729 of the 2023 MUTCD under Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon.

On the forum a few years ago I proposed I-740 for the section of Wade Avenue connecting I-40 to I-440. That didn't get anywhere either. That Wade Avenue freeway doesn't even have a primary highway number.

Maybe the Wade Avenue freeway could be NC 340 since I do not see a NC 340 listed on the NCRoads.com annex—-unless Wade Avenue is owned by the city of Raleigh ala Sam Cooper Blvd. in Memphis.

Wade Avenue, like almost all major roads in NC, is maintained by the State.

It's also not going to be an interstate.  That went away when the current plans for the I-440/Wade interchange included a traffic signal for an interstate (I-440 EB) to possible interstate (Wade WB) movement. Per FHWA (at least the NC 'section), those movements must be free-flow, without signals or other traffic control devices (stop signs) other than the typical ramp yield signs used for merging.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge in 1977, I-35W Bridge two days before it collapsed, Francis Scott Key Bridge in 2005, I-85 in Atlanta in 2004, I-88 in 1987 (where the culverts and road collapsed during the 2006 flood).

I believe there was an Interstate 740 proposed in the mid-80s for the US 67 freeway northeast of Little Rock (https://www.kurumi.com/roads/3di/i740.html). Of course, that never happened, and the corridor will eventually become part of Interstate 57.

How would an interstate in Arkansas affect a 3di in North Carolina?

It wouldn't surprise me if there is an example somewhere in New England of two exits signed with the same street name, although I can't think of one. New England's (especially Massachusetts's) habit of reusing the same dozen street names in every town, and naming many streets after "the town this street goes towards," lend themselves to a lot of duplication.

It took me eight months, but I stumbled across a slightly better example in Massachusetts. On MA 2 EB, Exit 130 is for Pleasant Street in Lexington. Exit 134 is for a different Pleasant Street in Arlington, which is also MA 60. While the signs for Exit 134 only list MA 60 without the street name, there is a sign before Exit 130 reading "Pleasant St/Arlington/Exit 134" to help people not get off at the wrong Pleasant Street. https://maps.app.goo.gl/cn6AEsURpna7JZo47

This only works EB, since Exit 130 is a half-diamond with no WB exit ramp.
