Quote from: Pink Jazz on January 10, 2022, 03:51:32 PMMpow was banned from Amazon due to a fake review scandal surrounding them and several other Chinese brands.

Here is the story from The Verge: Amazon says it's permanently banned 600 Chinese brands for review fraud. I agree that the action was necessary even though one of the banned brands sold a USB charger that I really liked and recommended. (It had two USB QuickCharge ports as well as four regular charge ports, very handy for travel as it supported 100-240v without an adapter).

Wonder if those brands have shown up on any other commerce sites?

The sellers probably invented new brands and got right back to exactly the same thing they were doing before. A lot of these Chinese brands you've never heard of is a company buying mediocre generic products en masse from a manufacturer or Alibaba, screen-printing their logo on it (if that), and putting it in a branded box. For some products you can find four copies of the same product–even using the exact same promo photos–with different brand names attached.

Some of the "brand names" on Amazon are laughably weird...and intentionally so

My Amazon order history includes items from ZSYONGLAI, Breezz, GDSTIME, Shengsite, BROLEX, COSRX, HONOMA, Waluzs, and binfrog.

If Amazon banned ZSYONGLAI from the platform the exact same product is available from Myvision and KUFUNG.

But you must buy one of an approved bone conducting headphones.

That's bullshit. Banning headphones entirely is understandable, but a business shouldn't be able to dictate to its employees the exact brand and type of headphones they buy with their personal money. What if I can only afford ZSYONGLAI?

Brand? No. Type of headsets? Probably if it a safety issue and you need to understand something verbally quickly like "The forklift is falling your way."
I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like "What is beauty?", because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems and call them "paychecks".

If it's a safety issue, better to ban them altogether. What he said exactly is

That reads to me you can use them, but only if it's from a list of approved models.

I went through something similar when I was at the casino. They took away the 5-gallon water coolers we had at each work station because of covid (covid doesn't spread through surfaces, but nobody at the casino ever bothered to learn that). To make up for it, we were allowed water bottles, but they had to be clear plastic, so that we couldn't stuff money inside the water bottle and sneak it out (first of all, ew, secondly, the drawer would come up short if we did that and we'd be caught when they reviewed the tape, so what would be the point). I bought a clear Nalgene bottle, only to be told that it wasn't "clear enough" because it had the Nalgene logo (smaller than a dime) and measurement lines printed on it. (I used it anyway because by that point it was clear that I wasn't going to be able to stand the place for much longer, and now it's my bedside water bottle for when I wake up in the middle of the night.)

I finally got it ironed out with an updated list that actually has models still for sale.  They want the workers to avoid the models with Bluetooth so we won't be fiddling with our phones, but there aren't any MP3-only wireless headphones left.  They used to ban headphones completely, but the employees managed to push to have a compromise option available.  It's better than nothing.  But the model I bought has a 4.5 to 5 hour play time on batteries, with an hour recharge time.  If I bring a portable charger and recharge during breaks I may be able to listen longer.  I'm really hoping to be able to listen to Mariners baseball games, so I hope I can still sneak use of Bluetooth.

I have a few pairs.

My main pair I use at my computer are the Audio Technical ATH-M50x Blue Black Editions.

I then have Jabra Elite 75T earbuds that I use for ease of access/commutes, and a pair of Anker Soundcore Q30 headphones that I use at work.

Rothman

Have some sort of Steelseries headset for general use and a pair of Koss headphones for use with my keyboard.

I've got some Raycon wireless buds I love

Beats Studio Buds. They were on sale at Costco when my old headphones died. I use them when I exercise and doing yardwork.
