I prefer lime, the area that my city uses, they are more visible at night. Yellow-orange looks substandard and should be banned when the new 2022 MUTCD comes out.

Big John

Lime is fluorescent yellow green (FYG).  Yellow-orange is just plain yellow.

FYG is used for pedestrians and school zones for extra emphasis.

But shouldn't all the pedestrian signs be FYG?

Big John

FYG pedestrian signs are optional per 2009 MUTCD, but they show up better.

Yes but if they show better, then everybody should be using it!

Alright

Over ten years (starting in 2017), Missouri intends to replace yellow-orange school pedestrian signs with FYG ones. Normal pedestrian signs will remain yellow-orange.

Sourced from the 2017 publication of the Department of Revenue's Driver Guide.

Maybe, but the original point was to reserve the color for zones of special importance. So, as a driver, you'd see the fluorescent yellow-green (FYG) and ideally associate that with a school zone. But the rampant use of FYG outside of school zones has meant that the color really has no special meaning to anyone.

All school zone signs must be FYG as far as I know.

^^ Pedestrians are usually discouraged from construction zones.

Then it's a bit random of why those are even in the manual

Your link is from a sign vendor and not MUTCD.  They often claim signs are MUTCD compliant which they are not.

The KYTC Traffic Operations Manual dictates that all new pedestrian and bicycle related signage be fluorescent yellow green. I prefer them that color, they stand out more and to me are different than a roadway hazard or other warning. I do agree that the use may "cheapen"  the school zone applications but a school zone is really nothing more than an area where increased caution is needed because a child (aka a pedestrian) could enter the roadway.

Not quite, he's obviously trying to find the crosswalks.

Forget California...wait until he sees anything outside a 50 mile radius of his house. Or the yellow color used on all warning signs nationwide.

I, for one, am enjoying my pair of Dr. K. P. H. Oger's Fantastical Fluorescentizing Signage Occular Goggles with patented ChromaXwalk technology!

"Price tag was a cool $32k, but that's just half of a game show pyramid. Step right up, folks! All yeller signage from coast to coast becomes instantly Shocking yellow!"
Only your eyes and wallet will be fooled!

Henry

I will admit, the first time I saw these bright green signs I was a bit perplexed because I had been accustomed to seeing the yellow colors, but now I'm used to the newer ones because next to them, the yellow signs look outdated.
