I think the XKCD creator may have driven I-84 westbound through Hartford.

Reminded me of I-5 in downtown Seattle, with all its exit only lanes. If you want to stay on I-5, better start changing lanes! https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6133252,-122.3305166,3a,90y,189.28h,82.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s51UnhjBNUxuwsE136F5eAw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Staying on southbound I-75 through downtown Detroit:  You have to move to the two new right lanes from the I-94 and Mack Avenue entrances.  Then past I-375, you need to move to the two new left lanes to avoid exiting to M-10 and I-96.  Not quite so bad northbound.

For southbound on I-5, you can take the "to I-90 EAST" ramp which then has its own ramp to return to I-5 south.
Just in case it's too crowded to get over those last couple of lanes.

Westbound I-94 through downtown Minneapolis. As the tradeoff for swapping the I-35W North ramp to westbound 94 to coming in on the left side of 94, the mainline right lane on I-94 drops at Hennepin Avenue instead of the old auxiliary lane that existed between 35W and Hennepin. So you move into the second right lane...which is an exit only to westbound I-394 once you get through the tunnel.

My anecdotal, limited observation is rush hour has gotten much worse in this area since this project was completed.

That sounds similar to the C/D lanes in Los Angeles (also I-5, and others), some of which even say THRU TRAFFIC OK.

It's I-95 past White Marsh where two right lanes end in less than a mile at the current end of the express lanes.
From the land of red, white, yellow and black.

Northbound too; it's even signed as "I-5 BUSINESS LOOP"

I-264 eastbound coming out of the Downtown Tunnel in Norfolk, VA. You are dumped into what become the left 2 lanes over the Berkley Bridge, while two lanes come in from right, which is from I-464.

Immediately after crossing the bridge, the two left lanes from the tunnel (I-264) become exit only into Downtown Norfolk, and the right two lanes (coming from I-464) become the new thru lanes to stay on I-264.

Paired with a lot of traffic on I-464 north wishing to exit into downtown Norfolk, this causes traffic coming out of the tunnel to have to merge right to stay on I-264, and people coming from I-464 to merge left to exit into Downtown. If you're lucky enough to be on I-464 going to I-264 east, your best bet is to just use the far right lane and avoid all the weaving, especially if traffic is heavier.

To top it all off, the speed limit through the complex is only 35 mph, which might seem good in theory, but if traffic is free-flow, everyone is moving 50-60 mph, and if you're trying to stick with the 35 mph speed limit, you're likely going to be a hazard everyone will weave around or slam on breaks and tailgate. It's a dangerous situation overall. I'm not sure why they don't bump it up to 45 mph at least.
