The Ghostbuster

That was the basis for decommissioning STH 163: https://wisconsinhighways.org/listings/WiscHwys160-169.html#STH-163. I suppose it would be based on a case-by-case basis.

They replaced lightly used highways with a number of more highly used highways, including four lane expressways and freeways.

Seems like a good idea to me.

There's so many lightly used highways all over the state especially in the Southwest Region. In the Driftless Area there's quite a few lightly traveled state highways but I wonder if they remain because of the challenging terrain and higher maintenance cost to the counties there?

Wis 107 has a stretch north of Merrill that only has 90 cars a day and it ends at a county highway. I'm ok with those other highways in the northeast region being decommissioned but my point is getting rid of state highways isn't being evenly applied throughout the state.

Why does any of this matter? What are we here for? This is a case of road enthusiasts having a discussion about roads.

Well let me answer my own question because you can't or won't.

It doesn't matter at all. WISDOT's northeast region has seen a decommissioning of minor state highways likely because it has also see major investments as well. So again, who cares if you have a state highway to drive between Hilbert and Brillion when you have a four lane WI-57 to get you up to Door County quicker.

And my point is that of all the things that are discussed on this forum, in real life I care about almost none of them. The only topics of discussion here that impact my life in any way are major construction projects close to where I live. So why do I spend time discussing anything else?

I apologize for the misunderstanding. From your post where you explained that it doesn't matter, I incorrectly assumed that because you claim it doesn't matter, that means it is unimportant and not of concern to you.

I will learn this new variation of English where "it doesn't matter" is not an adjacent statement to "I don't care".

With the exception of 163 and 96 east of I-43 I think all those decommissionings made perfect sense. The 2 I mentioned earlier were the only ones that bothered me a bit.

mgk920

Those two state highways (WI 96 east of I-43 and WI 163) both had very low traffic numbers.  It made zero sense for WisDOT to keep maintaining them.

Brown County has some of the oddest county highway lettering. For some odd reason County G in Ashwaubenon was recently changed to County GF. Why couldn't just remain as county G?

Then was County IL, the road to the landfill called that to poke fun at Illinois?

Did they remove G along George Street in De Pere, across the WI-32 bridge and along Main Street in (west) De Pere? That's the only reason I can think of.

Then was County IL, the road to the landfill called that to poke fun at Illinois?

Did they remove G along George Street in De Pere, across the WI-32 bridge and along Main Street in (west) De Pere? That's the only reason I can think of.

They didn't. It's County G through De Pere just past the I-41 Interchange. When the divided section ends there's a Jct GF sign and G randomly changes to GF. Here it is on streetview.

I came across this corner looking at something in Streetview. This is a poorly placed stop sign at Hwy SS and Old 41 near Pensaukee. If you are going west-southwest on SS, do you stop? I believe the intent was for vehicles turning right on Old 41 to stop and SS traffic to continue without stop judging from the road markings.
