So, the brown counties are where you want your bug-out plot of land for when civilization become unhinged.  Duly noted.
of the 9 states that have a Brown County?  :bigass:

Hey now, how many of those Brown Counties are also brown on the map?

Brown County, Illinois
Brown County, Indiana
Brown County, Kansas
Brown County, Minnesota
Brown County, Nebraska
Brown County, Ohio
Brown County, South Dakota
Brown County, Texas
Brown County, Wisconsin

Meanwhile most of the "interstate only" counties formerly had a US highway but it got truncated or eliminated on account of the interstate's construction. The former paths of US 10, 91, and 99 are conspicuously visible on the map.

and a couple of counties in the thumb of Michigan with no interstate/US highways would be wrong if the map was made in 1972, when US-25 was removed from Michigan. you might see similar interstate only routes where Michigan eliminated its US highways starting in the 1960s (US-2, US-12(1926-62), US-16, US-25, US-27)
Michigan eliminated US-2? Then what highway would I be on heading west out of St. Ignace?

In all fairness, the portion going up to SSM that was truncated would qualify for this poster's assertion, as Chippewa Co is now only a Interstate county, when it previously was Interstate and US. After all, US-12 still exists, just no longer going through Calhoun, Kalamazoo, etc.

They shortened it just like they did US 10 from Bay City to Detroit. It's still there though.

I don't think that Chippewa County was a US and interstate County at the same time. US-2 was removed from Mackinac Trail when I-75 opened.

US-2 was truncated in 1983.  Chiipewa County was home to both I-75 & US-2 for many years.
