ODOT can make signs that all look the same? I didn't know they could do that.

Oh yeah, ODOT can make signs that look the same. They'll even keep oddball errors in the original sign layout intact when replacing aged vinyl lettering on a big green sign panel. We have a few examples here in Lawton, like this beauty:

Notice the oversized "l" in "Great Plains" or the big "r" in "Auditorium." ODOT has replaced the reflective vinyl lettering on the panel at least a couple times since it got switched to Clearview over a decade ago. The layout error has nothing to do with the font choice. The ransom note look is someone not giving a damn about details.

Is the MUTCD clear that tribal boundaries should be on brown signs?  ODOT is stating that as a fact, but I'm not so sure.  I think they probably should be on green signs given the outcome of McGirt.

Native American tribes are absolutely a political subdivision of the U.S. so they deserve green signs as present. The only way Oklahoma could slap them in the face harder is to make the signs red.

I had wondered who was responsible for the signs in the first place. There are multiple signs that are missing or was never there to begin with. There was a sign on I-40 that said "entering Kickapoo nation" that disappeared after one of the tornados in Shawnee. The sign north of the Red river on US 271 that lets you know that you are entering the Choctaw nation has always been brown as long as I can remember.
