The National Championship has been set. UConn vs SDSU. What a crazy buzzer beater to win the game for SDSU!

I wouldn't have expected anything less this year.....

A lot of missed opportunities down the stretch for FAU.

Oh well, now I don't have to stay up late on Monday night.

I'm just happy I didn't end up in last place.

I am obligated to dislike UConn as a UMass fan, but congrats. What a dominant run.

Not only is it the fifth national championship for UConn, they're also the fifth team since 1985 to win all six games by double figures.

Also, congrats to LSU for winning their first ever women's national championship against Iowa in a matchup of first-time finalists.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Pfft.  You're too young to remember the much better rivalry with Temple.  Calipari vs. Cheney.  Great games.

UMass and UConn aren't even in the same conference.

Temple is in the AAC now. Honestly I don't really care about most of the A10 rivals. Most of them are random private schools miles away, the only one I care about is URI. UConn is a big football/hockey rival, we don't have a big basketball rival at the moment.

Who is the most famous alum from UMass?
Please, don't sue Alex & Andy over what I wrote above

In terms of basketball, Dr.J.

Richard Gere also went to UMass, along with Bill Pullman.

And then there's Jack Welch.

In 2014, I remember this from the post-game...

Quote from: UConn Coach Kevin Ollie
We don't chase National Championships. National championships chase us.

... and thinking: "Ooof. It's gonna be a while until the next one." It wasn't a good look IMHO, and I'm a fan.

So, championships did chase other teams for about 10 years. But now the car has caught back up to the dog :-)

Also, there's a pattern in the seemingly-random championship runs.

First was 1999, then 2004:   5 years
Then 2011:  7 years
Then 2014:  3 years
Then 2023:  9 years

5, 7, 3, 9.

Next number in the sequence is 1, meaning they'll repeat.

But after that, 11 blissful years free of UConn bracket-busting.

But after that... the next number is -1. And that gets interesting.

That's the plan. We'll probably wait about a week from now before we make a group.

Tourney seems to be starting later this year.

It is. Championship is usually first Monday in April.
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

Alright, Selection Sunday has rolled around. With all the upsets in the conference tourneys, this one ought to be interesting.

If anybody wants to join the group we've been using, here's the link:
