Question about NY 68 south of Ogdensburg
« on: December 01, 2022, 02:53:38 PM »

I was searching on Street View and I saw that NY 68 was recently switched to a new alignment. Interestingly, this alignment is more out of the way than the original. Does anyone here know why?

The runway was extended, and the road was pushed further east in order to provide an adequate "clear zone." This happened sometime in between 2015 and 2017, according to Historic Aerials.

Edit: Found an article with some more info.

A similar thing happened last year with PA 288 near Zelienople.  (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=4654.msg24782#msg24782)
