After completing CA 135 I took a short cut to Sisquoc where former CA 176 would have ended east of Santa Maria.  Usually I have a look at the GSV if I'm not familiar with a road but I didn't for some reason when I scouted out Cat Canyon Road.  Pretty much the road was normal until I hit a huge down hill/single lane grade.  Apparently Cat Canyon road was a well maintained county level road even back in the 1930s as it appears on Division of Highways map.  Anyways, I thought it was pretty cool so I took so pictures and I'll try to find out the history later this week:

The earliest map reference for Cat Canyon Road I could find was back in 1935.  Given the oil field of the same name dates back to 1908 I would imagine it was present much earlier given the somewhat haphazard design of the downhill grade has a early 20th century haul road feel to it.
