Over/Under bets anyone on how long it will take to come up with 200 non-flat unique images of Illinois?

It would be a lot easier, if I weren't limiting myself to one GSV per road.  Some state and county highways have multiple examples that would fit the challenge wonderfully.

For what it's worth, I don't expect to make it to 200, and I think it's an unreasonable target to hit.  But it's still a fun challenge anyway.

Holding it to one entry per road makes for a better challenge IMO.

Your state is flatter than my state!

No your state is flatter!

I know you are but what am I?

It's third grade all over again...

"My state can beat up your state!"

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah!"

When is the last time Illinois really had one over on Michigan?  Was it when the Chicago Bulls finally surpassed the Detroit Pistons?

I mean, despite the Bears not being great, they've certainly been better than the Lions.

The Blackhawks had a good run fairly recently but weren't the Dynasty the Red Wings were.  The Tigers had a good 2000s run but both Chicago teams had a World Series.  Michigan and Michigan State I would say have faired substantially better in major (only counting Basketball and Football) college sports.  The Pistons had the better run in the early 2000s than the Bulls and even got an NBA title.

And like I mentioned before the elevation difference between Saginaw and Flint is 150 feet. You'd be hard pressed to notice the difference driving along I-75 or Dixie Highway/Saginaw Road. Next I guess the thumb area of Michigan will be considered hilly, he's already claimed that Saginaw County is which I find funny.

And not once did I say Saginaw County was hilly. It's Michigan's equivalent of Douglas County in Illinois.
Shows how little you know about Saginaw County,

It's the flattest county in Michigan just like Douglas County is the flattest county in Illinois.
Saginaw County is NOT the flattest county in Michigan and I'm not even being biased by saying that. Have you ever been in the thumb in like Huron County or Sanillac County? Or Tuscola County? Saginaw County has nothing in common with Douglas County, Illinois.

kphoger

(This will get more challenging the farther north I move up the state.  So far, I've posted links mainly from areas I'm familiar with:  I've personally driven probably one-third of the roads so far.  There are some other great ones I'm familiar with, but they don't have GSV.  As I move farther north, however, I'll be moving into parts of the state I'm less familiar with.)

Amusingly my quip up thread about seeing all there is to see on I-94/I-69 would miss Saginaw County.

I think we can do it, the IL extension of the Ozark plateau has numerous examples alone. Here are some from the northern tier of the state which are outside of the Ozark plateau, some even outside of the driftless area.

Yeah, call me when Illinois gets something like this, Crash.

That wasn't the challenge.  The challenge was 200 photos of non-flatness in Illinois.  The absence of snow-capped mountains does not equal flatness.

Or even something like this, which is where I live. You can see significantly lower elevation in the distance along the power lines and some large hills even farther in the distance.

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.751141,-71.1399796,3a,66.6y,89.41h,79.81t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLN7SzwRX0Q8qUBdlHvhZRQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

I already posted some terrain similar to that from Illinois.  I could have posted quite a few more, except that those elevation changes are most often obscured from view on the road by trees.

Here, though, is a break in the trees for you.
And here's another view nearby.

From the looks of it, I wouldn't disagree. It looks gorgeous.

But I should have clarified, I'm asking Crash where this type of terrain is located in Illinois, I cannot seem to find it.

Have you checked the multiverse?  I seem to recall some sort of alternate "Dark Illinois"  that was on the bottom side of a flat Earth that had mountains being brought up in one of these threads.

I can't find a comparable image via GSV, but on my regular commute along Ava Rd in Jackson County, top of the hill heading downhill thru some S-curves heading Southeast near Plesant Hill Church, I'll have to stop and take a picture. You can see for miles! Clear conditions, early evening/twilight, can probably count 10+ cell tower beacons, some that are 5-10 miles away. It is just that clear, and you are obviously "above"  the rest - higher elevation that that you are overlooking

Maybe some trees have been cut or cleared since the GSV car went thru 8 years ago, but there are 2 or 3 spots it is pretty awesome, at least for Illinois standards.

One I love up in the Metro East: Along IL 15, outside the I-255 Beltway: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.5650202,-90.088469,3a,22.8y,305.71h,82.23t,0.02r/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sYOZguKJKl-JFngV0bPNJJQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Nice hilltop view of the STL Skyline, at just under 7 miles SE of the Arch

The amusing thing for me is having lived on the West Coast half my life the East Coast ranges don't tend to feel all that impressive very often anymore.  The first half of my life when I lived in the Midwest and East Coast they did.

Pretty sure we have that somewhere in the Ozark plateau or even the driftless zone. No flat road or state would have something like this posted on the side of the road:

certainly not in Louisiana or Mississippi.

Oh, so is this a game now? Posting image to prove that a state overall isn't flat?

I can probably find 200 images of level to slightly rolling terrain from West Virginia, but that wouldn't prove that West Virginia is flat.

No, not a game.  It's a specific challenge.  I was interested to see if I could actually meet the challenge.  And then, of course, if I do, I'm interested to see if he'll make good on his end of the deal.  Of course, he's only actually promised to consider...
