One of the true legends of heavy metal.  He will be missed.  Here's a song in tribute to the great Ronnie James Dio.

RIP, he will be missed, may rock be with you.

As I mentioned on another forum, it's a toss-up as to who I think is the best heavy metal singer of all time between Ronnie James Dio or Rob Halford (Judas Priest). Ronnie James Dio was just a little guy (my friend's 13-year-old son is probably taller), but he had this guttural roar that was perfect for heavy metal. He also must've taken extraordinary care of his vocal cords, as he never lost it, either.

Yesterday, I played old vinyl copies of Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell, Rainbow's debut album (with "Man on the Silver Mountain") and the band Dio's Dream Evil on my turntable. Great stuff! :spin:

RIP, Ronnie James Dio.

I'd throw Bruce Dickinson in there too.

You're not kidding.  His vocals on The Devil You Know, which was recorded when he was around 65 are incredible.

I played the first two Dio albums today.  Yesterday I played The Devil You Know, Heaven and Hell, and some assorted other songs.  I knew about his medical problems so while it wasn't a shocker, it's still hard to deal with.

Don't forget Paul Gray and Art Linkletter. Although periodically checking WP's recent deaths has revealed to me that there are several trifectas going on simultaneously.

agentsteel53

wtf, Paul Gray died?  as did Peter Steele, so we have three metal musicians.  Jose Lima and Ernie Harwell are waiting for a third baseball-related person.  Please let it be Pinky Higgins.

Paul Grey was like the best bassest ever. Slipknot now only has 8 members, I guess they'll have to take a point off their star. RIP Paul Grey.

I was at an REO Speedwagon concert last night, and the singer dedicated "It's Time For Me To Fly" to Ronnie James Dio.

Yep, had 3rd row seats, too. Caught one of the guitar picks they threw into the audience, stamped with the REO Speedwagon logo.

Working at a casino is fun! ;)
