Rule clarification:  Does an Oklahoma circle match an Oklahoma meat cleaver?

Quote from: 1 on May 24, 2019, 04:10:13 PM
Rules:

2. A sign matches the previous one if at least one is true: a. the number matches, b. everything else matches regarding content. (The dimensions can be different, and for signs other than route shields, the wording can be slightly different if the message is the same except for the number.)
Keep right except to pass.  Yes.  You.

From the rulings:
QuoteTexas FM and RM routes are the same type, as are Idaho's white-on-black and black-on-white shields and Louisiana's green and white shields. FM routes look different on a BGS, but they are still considered to be identical.

No reason why Oklahoma circles don't match Oklahoma meat-cleavers.

No reason why Oklahoma circles don't match Oklahoma meat-cleavers.

The reason I asked is that the Oklahoma shields don't quite match the examples above:

Texas FM and RM – everything matches except a single letter.
Idaho – everything matches except the colors
Louisiana – everything matches except the colors
BGS – required a special ruling because the shapes and designs don't match

Oklahoma switched to the "meat cleaver" several years ago, but some older signs remain.

I would find it hard to reconcile "standalone FM matches BGS-style FM" with "old-style OK/SC/ND state route doesn't match new-style OK/SC/ND state route". The play should stand IMO.

Circles and meat cleavers are part of the same system, so they're considered to be identical. It's not like Virginia's primary vs. secondary.
