I think I'm driving to Kansas City next weekend for some Steak 'n Shake. Nothing fancy, just taking I-80 to I-29 to I-70 to I-25. I don't have time to avoid the interstates which would normally be the preference

You should try Eddie's Drive In in Sedalia, MO.  They have steakburgers that are even better than SnS.  It's on US 50 at Ohio Street.

Steak & Shake in Kansas City? Blasphemy! You want Gates BBQ or a Winstead's burger.

I second Gates.  LC's is good too.

I'm in the middle of a roadtrip to my ruined hometown of Mena.  Heading back to T-town tomorrow.

I'm heading down to Frederick, MD next weekend.  It's a six-hour trip!  My route (from Auburn, NY) is NY 34 to NY 13 in Ithaca, and then I-86/NY 17 to US 15 near Corning.  We then use I-180 to I-90 to bypass part of US 15.  We meet I-81 in Harrisburg, and then take I-70 east from Hagerstown to Frederick.  We also sometimes go right to I-81 from Auburn via NY 38 and some local roads to NY 281 to I-81.

I should have my pictures uploaded to Flickr from my South Carolina trip.  I was only able to get pics of US 501 and US 17 in South Carolina because my memory card was full.
NJ Roads FTW!

I-99... the Glen Quagmire of interstate routes??

ComputerGuy

From North Lakewood, WA to SR 531 to I-5 to I-405 to I-90 to I-82 to I-182 to US 12 to US 95 in Lewiston, ID.

You know you can cut almost an hour off the Seattle-Lewiston trip by taking SR 26 to Colfax and then US-195 south to Lewiston, right (especially now that the speed limit is 65 on most of SR 26 and there's no slowing to go through towns along the entire route)?  I only say this because I used to (and actually still do) make the Seattle-Lewiston haul several times a year as I used to live just south of Lewiston

ComputerGuy

I want to take a more sceinc route...my mom has friends along our route, some in the Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, and in Yakima.

corco

Ah- OK. I've just noticed that's a very common misconception because it looks faster to go through Tri-Cities on the map even though it's not, so I usually point that out to people

Why not just take US 15 south from Harrisburg to Frederick?

I'm not driving, and I never really thought about it.  It looks like US 15 is Interstate standard for about half the distance from Harrisburg to Fredrick.  It's only 20 minutes shorter though.  I forgot to mention that we stop in Selinsgrove, PA too.

Michael

^^  I know they do that in Virginia too!  I can't remember where, but there's this one portion on US 15 where you can pass for about ten miles between Point of Rocks, MD and Warrenton, VA.  I think it was on the James Monroe Highway segment of US 15.

On another note, I found out that we had to stop in Hagerstown, which I forgot about, which is why we went over I-70.  I also found out that the trip might be canceled too!  :-(  I've only been to Fredrick once, but a few times to Selinsgrove.

My parents and I are going to Philadelphia and Biloxi, Mississippi in a three-to-four day period, in about two weeks or so. We're going to Philadelphia first, then were' going down I-59 South to US 98 East to US 49 South to MS 67 South, then down I-110 South to get to Biloxi. I've never gone that way before, so it'll be interesting.

I was just checking the speed limits on some of those roads. The speeds seem to be between 65 and 70 m.p.h., excepting I-59 in Laurel, Mississippi.

Be well,

Check out my YouTube page (http://youtube.com/Bryant5493). I have numerous road videos of Metro Atlanta and other areas in the Southeast.

^^ Thanks, froggie. I figured that the limits would be something like that.

Quick question: I was looking at a map, to plot our route from Philly to Biloxi. The map (MapQuest) still show MS 67 going to I-10 (Woolmarket exit). That's not still the case, is it?

^^ Oh, okay. I was thinking that, but MapQuest was throwing me off. I'll try the aerial image view. Thanks.

Let me see, I'll be going to my camp in May about 80 km away.
I'm going to Toronto in June about 1,700 km away.
I'm going to Fargo in August about 600km away.
I'm going to Toronto in November.
Florida in January about 3,000 km away.

Yeah, the closest city larger than 50,000 people is three hours one way away (Duluth, Minnesota), so we don't really have much to explore up here closer than 4 hours away both ways...

I'm taking a mini roadtrip on Saturday, May 30th. I'm travelling to Philadelphia. I'm gonna take some road photos, of course, and I'm going to eat a cheesesteak. So it's like a double win.

I got back from one on Sun., May 17th. I went to Philadelphia (MS), Biloxi and New Orleans. I posted some road videos on my new blog -- southernroadgeek.blogspot.com.
