Title: Trip to Fredericksburg/Stafford, VA
Post by: WillWeaverRVA on February 18, 2009, 12:42:31 AM
Yeah, the link is in my signature, but this forum is for member albums, so I might as well post here too.

I went down to Chesterfield for a medical procedure today, and took photos of I-195 and VA 76 there and back. As usual I've posted the good ones on Flickr and provided some commentary.

Main gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/coredesatchikai/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/coredesatchikai/) (contains lots of other interesting things, too!)

These are great photos, are you going to see if you can have them added to the AARoads highway guides?

I actually got more photos from VA 76 North and VA 146/VA 195 from a few weeks ago.

Sure, if they'll have them, but they already have plenty of photos from most of the routes I've covered.

Added two more erroneous US 33 shields, and an original VA 195 overhead sign in the Shockoe Slip. Seeing as this sign is obscured by traffic signals and looks out of place in that area, it's a wonder the sign's still there:

Unfortunately, parking in the Shockoe Slip is an absolute pain, so I couldn't get out and take a better photo.

I went to Fredericksburg and Stafford, VA yesterday and took tons of photos. I made a new set here:

I managed to screw up and end up in Aquia Harbour, which is a secure and restrictive community in eastern Stafford County. You can't turn around before ending up inside, so I asked to turn around inside. However, first I went to the end of Washington Street (the main road inside the community); this is the route of a VA 213 that existed from 1933 to 1944 (per VA Hwys Project). I also managed to get photos of the actual eastern terminus of this route as it appears on maps from the era:

Looking at the actual terminus of old VA 213 at Aquia Harbour. The road loops around the inn and heads back to US 1:

Beginning up the road.

I didn't do too much roadgeeking otherwise, though I did spot an error VA 3 shield without a BUSINESS banner on it in downtown Fredericksburg.
