For roadgeeks only: What is the connection between Cambridge, OH, and yesterday's Super Bowl?

Hint: it is not New Philadelphia

Never thought I'd ever live to see Mahomes get beat down like he did last night, and he'll be having nightmares about it all spring. Don't be surprised if this shows up as a future Jeopardy! clue:

"They're the only team in NFL history to beat both Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl"

ANSWER: Who are the Philadelphia Eagles?
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

What makes those Eagles wins special is they were against two teams that were going thru what many would refer as a Dynasty at the time.

And not only that, unless the Giants shock us all and beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl sometime before Mahomes retires, the Eagles will forever remain the only team in the NFL with Super Bowl wins over both of these dynasties and their respective QBs.

*Long post alert!*
This thread started back when Tom Brady was still a Patriot and the world had barely heard of Covid-19. Five years later, the first half of the 2020's decade is officially in the books. With 1409 games played (1344 regular season, 65 postseason), it's time to check in and see how each NFL team stacks up over that span. I apologize in advance for the very long post and the weird column formatting.

Most playoff games without a win: Steelers (4)
Most playoff games without a Conference Title game appearance: Cowboys/Steelers/Texans (4)
Most playoff games without a Super Bowl appearance: Bills (12)

Only the Bills, Bucs and Chiefs made the playoffs in all five seasons.
Only the Bills lost in the playoffs all five seasons.
Only 7 AFC teams have won a playoff game this decade.
Only 5 AFC teams have won multiple playoff games this decade.
Only 4 AFC teams have more than 40 wins and a playoff win this decade. Those 4 teams (Bengals, Bills, Chiefs, Ravens) are 28-14 in the playoffs. The rest of the conference is 4-19 (yes, you read that right) in the playoffs.
The Chiefs and Bills combined for a 20-8 playoff record. The rest of the AFC East and AFC West *combined* went 0-7 in the playoffs.

The NFC East is the only division in which every team has won a playoff game this decade.
The NFC West is the only division in which multiple teams (49ers, Rams) have won 5+ playoff games.
The NFC North is the only NFC division with a losing record in the playoffs (4-9) and the only NFC division not to produce a Super Bowl champion this decade.

Two more quick things:

First, I want to point out how absolutely insane this is:

Quote from: webny99 on February 22, 2025, 12:00:20 AMOnly 4 AFC teams have more than 40 wins and a playoff win this decade. Those 4 teams (Bengals, Bills, Chiefs, Ravens) are 28-14 in the playoffs. The rest of the conference is 4-19 (yes, you read that right) in the playoffs.

And also, I realized while going through this that the big 4 AFC teams have *only* lost against each other in the AFC playoffs. Yes, all 14 of their combined playoff losses are against one of the other three teams or in the Super Bowl:

Bengals: 2 losses (1 vs. Chiefs, 1 Super Bowl)
Bills: 5 losses (4 vs. Chiefs, 1 vs. Bengals)
Chiefs: 3 losses (1 vs. Bengals, 2 Super Bowl)
Ravens: 4 losses (2 vs. Bills, 1 vs. Bengals, 1 vs. Chiefs)

... now stay with me here. Take the 28 playoff wins that those four teams have, subtract the Chiefs' 2 Super Bowl wins, and subtract the 11 wins that were against each other. That leaves 15 wins, meaning these four teams are *15-0* against the rest of the conference in the playoffs over a five year span. That is truly mind-blowing.

The second thing is a much broader question that I wanted to ask after putting this all together: Which are the most successful teams in the NFL over the past five years?

I think the top four are pretty easy: Chiefs, Eagles, Bucs, Rams in that order. Then it gets trickier.

And it's the same thing at the bottom. The Jets and Panthers are pretty clearly the least successful franchises over the course of 2020-2024, but then it gets trickier, because the Giants and Jaguars have a playoff win, which many teams further up the list do not.

So should the Texans tag Stefon Diggs with the franchise player tag?
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

No. He's older now and less effective.

I was leaning towards creating a new thread for 2025, and now we have one, so I guess that's a wrap for this one.
With over 7000 replies, this one's going to be untouchable as the longest Sports thread on the forum for quite some time. End of an era.

No. He's completely replaceable at this point.

Way too expensive.

When the Myles Garrett rumors came out, I was thinking, the Texans are probably the only team in the league that's not interested. They have Hunter and Anderson already and need WR and o-line very, very bad. (If Garrett has been traded already, don't tell me . . . )

It was fun while it lasted. Safe to say that the Chiefs have owned the first half of this decade with their three Super Bowl wins, but with Patrick Mahomes saying that next year will be the Last Dance for them, I don't see this dynasty going any further. Hopefully I'm wrong, but they're approaching the end, if the recent loss to the Eagles is any indication.

It's the last dance for Kelce right? Mahomes isn't retiring - he's only 29.

They may need a rebuild, but as long as he's around, they are going to be just fine.

Kelce said he intends to play in 2025. He doesn't want his last game to be the garbage stats he had in Super bowl LIX.

Mahomes won't retire, and Kelce still has another year at least. I think Mahomes meant that they will need to rebuild when their key players (like Kelce) do retire.
