Chiefs and Royals to Kansas?

Kansas might be looking at luring the Chiefs and Royals over the state line later this decade:
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40382107/kansas-lawmakers-approve-plan-lure-chiefs-missouri

QuoteBipartisan legislative supermajorities OK'd the measure to authorize state bonds to help finance new stadiums and practice facilities for both teams on the Kansas side of the metropolitan area of 2.3 million residents, which is split by the border with Missouri.
...

The plan from the Republican-controlled Legislature goes next to Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. While she stopped short of promising to sign it, she said in a statement that "Kansas now has the opportunity to become a professional sports powerhouse."

Both the Chiefs and the Royals said they look forward to considering Kansas options. The lease on the Missouri complex with the teams' side-by-side stadiums runs through January 2031, but both have said they already should have been planning for the future.

Bill is on the Governor's desk.

At least this will only pit taxpayers in the same market against each other in the next round of "who will buy us a stadium".

Though new stadiums rarely deliver the alleged economic boost.  From the same article:
QuoteEconomists who study pro sports teams have concluded in dozens of studies that a new stadium and shopping and entertainment area merely takes existing economic activity away from elsewhere in a community, resulting in little or no net gain.

"It could still help Kansas and maybe hurt Missouri by the same amount," Andrew Zimbalist, an economics professor at Smith college in central Massachusetts who has written multiple books about sports, said. "It's a zero-sum game."

Frankly surprised an article on ESPN included that.  I know they're just reposting something from the AP, but still, I would think that works against a media empire that wants people to be into sports.
"That's just like... your opinion, man."

Didn't Kansas slowly kill their bond rating after years of poor budgeting and now this? Smart.

It seems to me that a lot of opposing fans are still going to stay in Missouri.

Isn't there a Kansas City on both sides of the Missouri River (one in MO and the other in KS)?
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

During the era of Brownbackistan.

Only about 50% of the shared border is separated by the Missouri River. It is a land border south of where the Kansas River meets the Missouri River.

It looks still worse than average at the moment; it's been the same since 2016 at AA-. Per S&P there are only 4 states worse.

I should have specified that it began in the era of Brownbackistan.

Just spent some time on GSV, and outside of the fact that you are crossing "State Line Road," there is no indication that you are crossing into another state in some of those neighborhoods. They look remarkably similar on either side of the line.

Yeah. When you tell people you're from KC, a common question from those that aren't that familiar is "Kansas? Or Missouri" when, in reality, people in KC don't think that much about crossing over the state line so it's somewhat irrelevant. The bars stay open longer on the Missouri side and the cops are bigger jerks on the Kansas side. Otherwise no one really gives it a second thought.

I usually ask this question, but that's because I'm far more familiar with the Kansas side, so it's mostly to keep from making a fool of myself bringing up things they aren't familiar with (and to know whether making fun of Johnson County is a good idea or not).
