Analyst details just how bad the RSN business has gotten
The former Fox Sports RSNs have seen a 97% decline in valuation since their sale in 2018.
QuoteWe already knew that the regional sports network business wasn't exactly in great shape, but sometimes it is hard to quantify just how much it has fallen.

However, CNBC senior sports reporter Mike Ozanian offered some figures on social media Thursday that showed the situation around the regional sports network business may be even more dire than one could imagine.

Diamond Sports is absolutely horrific. Enough said.

It has BEEN awful. TVA Sports' NHL commentary has been garbage for 10 years now.

Their value is going to drop to the point that one of us here could afford them in bankruptcy.

Or a few years ago when NFL games disappeared from AM radio and went exclusively to FM.  The only reason why that I could reasonably think of for that was that FM has such a much shorter reception/listening range than AM and that the league could thus better control the media.

I asked someone in the industry about that once. That's part of it. The other is that AM radio trends very old and is almost exclusively news these days.

The audio quality is also much better on FM verses AM. I don't have a timeline, but at one time, vehicles came with AM radio as standard equipment and FM being an optional extra. Sometime in the 1980s or early 1990s, vehicles came with AM-FM radio. We won't even talk about the "sharkfin" antennas.

The entire business model of RSNs was to be distributed to lots and lots of people who never wanted them. Once streaming exploded the number of different providers, there were enough providers who could offer lower prices by not carrying RSNs, thus ruining that model.

The amount of money that MLB, NBA and NHL are going to get from local TV rights is about to take a sharp downturn.

Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

100% correct.

All the former Bally Sports networks just rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network. Same shit, different name. Since the MLB teams that had their local games shown on Bally were just taken over by the league, FanDuel has probably half the teams it used to. FanDuel Sports Wisconsin (formerly Bally Sports Wisconsin, formerly Fox Sports Wisconsin) Now only has the Bucks of the NBA, and no longer have the Brewers. Yet they're still charging $19.99/month for their streaming app which was never reliable and they still aren't available on the4 majority of streaming platforms or cable systems in the state.
