Lane ends 900 ft. => 230 meters to ATV/snowmobile crossing, on TCH 117 in northern Quebec:

One question -- why 230 meters, rather than a more even 200m or 250m? I saw a lot of 230 meter signs, as well as a few oddball distances (no photos, just after sunset) of 285m or 385m to school bus stops ahead.

And what is significant about 750 feet?

It's halfway between 751 and 749 feet, naturally. (Though probably 500 and 1000, formerly a common value for US work zones.)

I doubt that "a common value for US work zones" has any significance in northern Québec.

I figured it might be a converted value that remained rather constant for decades...

It also doesn't explain the other distance of 285 meters (935 feet) or 385 meters (1263 feet).

Maybe a spacing requirement between objects and other signage? Just a guess.

Places in Canada may use the MUTCD to provide some standards, and the MUTCD uses Imperial units.  That's my only guess at an explanation for why they'd use such a strange number as 230.

I've never been clear on what's allowed and what's not allowed when it comes to customary and metric measurements.  The ruling added to the OP isn't detailed enough for me to grasp.  That's why I didn't call a flag earlier.

The only thing I see pertaining to conversions is this:

QuoteMiles are not compatible with kilometers unless it is a mile/kilometer marker where neither sign specifies which one it is.

So it looks like they aren't allowed at all. I personally would allow conversions in cases of units of measures, so that "1.6 km" can be played from "1 mile" (though nothing else with 1.6 would be valid numerically).

Either way, 230 meters = 750 feet <> 900 feet, so "Lane ends 900 ft. => 230 meters to ATV/snowmobile crossing" is not valid.

The play is not valid.

I'll make an exception for conversions.

Also, 12'6" now matches 12.5.

There were five new-photo posts (not including side discussions) between my disqualified post and jbnv's challenge, and two more (one of them US 71's) after the challenge. I don't see a rule on this in this thread. But in other road sign games, jbnv's challenge would not unwind the whole thread back to the disqualified post, and we can continue from the rest of the thread.

One easy way to fix this.  I'll play the following WILD, from I-81, December 26, 2010, and request the next sign to be blue.
