looks like the inner loop project is complete. My question is, why not get rid of the whole thing minus the 490 part? I think 490 should stay, but the remaining arm that is left doesn't seem to make any sense.

and why not to remove entire city?
What is the likelihood of the rest of the loop being removed? Has anyone done a study about it? How much traffic would be diverted to local streets?
again, i'm only talking about the remaining portion that ISN'T 490
I wasn't referring to the 490 segment. I was referring to the portion that still exists between 490 and Union Street, where they truncated it.
Half of what remains is up against a rail line. No real benefit to removing it. The remaining bit is a below-grade bypass of downtown. A big point of contention regarding the Inner Loop was that it was at grade on the SE side of downtown and the business district had spread across the Inner Loop over there.
glad to see that portion gone.
I never drove the Inner Loop, but I did drive over the filled-in portions to the East a few months ago, without noticing until I saw construction vehicles.
Pretty similar to the fill in with the Big Dig, except the highway is just gone now.
