Round Rock-Mays

So, driving on US 79 toward 35 we crossed Mays, which is old 81 and has been BL35 for years.  Northbound it is now a state highway (forgot the number) and the BL appears to be gone altogether.

On February 28, 2013, TTC approved a minute order cancelling the designation of Business Loop 35-L and designating Spur 379 from US 79 north to I-35.  The same minute order removed the portion of RM 620 between I-35 and Mays St.

I joked with my wife how I could drive by the same building every day for 5 years and never notice it, but the minute a highway designation changes I see it right away.

I'm the same way.  I notice street names and highway numbers, but take a long time to notice buildings.  I give what I consider to be proper directions (turn right on Main St., turn left on State Highway 41, exit to US 87) and everyone I know gives weird directions, such as turning by the red house or the bank.  Unless I'm really familiar with the area, I probably don't know where those things are.  I suppose that the difference is that to people like us, a road is something to be appreciated and studied, while to most people a road is just a way to get to a red house or a bank.

From Wikipedia: In the 1950s, Taylor was the economic powerhouse in the county due to it being the center of cotton production and shipping and had a large population. So it was expected, then, that the proposed Interstate 35, part of the new Interstate Highway System would pass through Taylor on its way from Dallas to Austin. In fact, the original routing plans drawn by Highway Commioner DeWitt Greer called for the "interregional" highway to go through Taylor.
