Is Roadgeeking Still A Thing?

Is being a roadgeek still a thing? I love driving and highways and all but I haven't taken a road picture in years. Seems a lot of signage in some areas have changed a lot since a photo has been taken. There really doesn't seem to be a lot of current websites out there. Many of the existing ones are defunct, not maintained/updated. The few sites I have seen have road pics from like 2003 but where are the current pics? Are they even being taken anymore? Even Google Maps Streetview views look different today than those old timey 2003 pics I often see.

(this is a guess)

Most of those websites were created when there was no other way to get the information on the Internet. Now, Wikipedia contains information about all Interstates, all US routes, and almost all state routes, so many of these websites are redundant.
Clinched, plus MA 286

Traveled, plus several state routes

Lowest untraveled: 25 (updated from 14)

New clinches: MA 286
New traveled: MA 14, MA 123

You're not looking in the right places.

Short answer: yes.  Not all the pages have been maintained.  It's easier to find them on Facebook and here.

I'm not even sure the OP considered this site a source.

Either way, roadgeeking has definitely not died. It might be more fragmented than it was 10 years ago, but then again I kind of expect forums like this to piece the fragments together. :) Maybe that's a little naive, IDK.

Roadgeeking is definitely still a thing. Websites becoming less active is not necessarily an indicator of the status of roadgeeking itself. I know that I personally have actually taken more road pictures in the past year than I ever have at any other point in my entire life. However, due to complications with my phone, I am currently unable to upload anymore of those photos for the time being.  X-(

I have also taken a lot of road videos, but due to the same complications and more, most of those have not made it to YouTube yet, and it will probably be a long while until they do. This forum is definitely still as active as ever, if not even more than before.

I would say that roadgeeking is not dead at all!  ;-)

That is very reassuring. This site right here is a great resource no doubt. I've always enjoyed the photos from Michigan Highway Ends which I have contributed to in the past among other photo oriented sites. However that is one of the sites that are defunct. I get it, people move on, have other interests, or just don't have the time nor money for web hosting and what not. The reason I liked sites such as that was there are photos that really aren't documented anywhere else. A highway ends sight might show just that, ends, but what about the in betweens like junctions, multi-plexes, etc? That is the heart of the matter for me.

It's fallen from its peak, which was presumably this moment in 2012:

So which one of you filmed that video? :bigass:

Edit: wow, I could not finish watching that. Way too much cringe. :ded:

That almost seems like a Carl Rogers parody video.

Some of us are still technophobes (*raises hand and opens flip phone*) and don't host host anything ourselves.  I still take sign photos and currently have just over 6,100 of them in my collection, but they're primarily for my own enjoyment as I haven't a clue how I might host a website for them.  I link some of them here through a third party.

Of course it is still a thing. This forum is still up and active.

Sure is for me, I have a collection of road photo albums that I've collected over the years.  Personally I love travel and road travel is a huge part of that.  I generally tend to stick to secondary, mountainous, dangerous, or weird stuff as opposed to things like freeways though.  The historical aspect is what interests me as it does pretty much all my other hobbies.

The hobby comes and goes for some people, so I might move the percentage down closer to 95% or so, but I'd say that probably for most of us, the interest remains pretty solid, and roadgeeking is definitely still a thing.

It has definitely not gone away for me personally.
