US 66 endpoints in Santa Monica

Dale from USends brought up an interesting question for the end point for US 66 in Santa Monica; did it always end at Lincoln or Olympic or was it somewhere else before the McClure Tunnel opened?  For reference per what was discussed on the Arroyo Seco Parkway thread:

-  At some point likely in late 1934/1935 US 66 was truncated to Broadway/Sunset when US 101 was shifted to a new alignment.
-  In October 1935 a Department of Public Works document stated that US 66 was extended to Santa Monica and US 101A replaced CA 3.

With that in mind how exactly was US 101A getting east from PCH to Lincoln before the McClure Tunnel was complete?  My suspicion is that there must have been a temporary alignment via Colorado or Pico but there is no clearly favored route on this 1935 Division of Highways map of the Santa Monica Area:

For reference I believe McClure Tunnel was completed by March 1936?   My theory is that US 66 in Santa Monica always terminated at Lincoln/Olympic since it was extended just a couple months prior to the McClure Tunnel opening.  Does anyone have any additional insight to this question?

However, it's important to note that AASHTO often approves routes before they open. http://www.cahighways.org/065-072.html#066 confirms that it was always considered to end at Olympic: "thence, southerly along Lincoln Boulevard to the terminus at Pennsylvania Avenue".

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

Thanks, I missed the early LRN 60 alignment on the CA 1 (Old CA 3/US 101A) blog I just did.  That definition by the AASHTO cleared up also some questions I had about the effective date on 66 being extended to Santa Monica.  I'll be doing a couple updates tonight.

It opened in Feb 1936 - pg. 8 at http://libraryarchives.metro.net/DPGTL/Californiahighways/chpw_1936_feb.pdf

That doesn't show any route numbers. However, there are some other Rumsey maps that show, in somewhat less detail, 66 coming down Santa Monica and making a left turn to end at Lincoln.

Lots of people think it ended at the Pier, or at Ocean Ave at the statue of Santa Monica. A sign at that statue implies that's where it ended, but I've never seen any evidence that it did.

Post 1933 it's highly likely that 66 would have been exclusively signed on State Maintained Roadway. The solid lines denote roadways that are state maintained.
