Gauging Interest in a possible Springfield, MO roadmeet. Looking at early July (tentative). 13/44 Diverging Diamond, parts of old US66, Galena Y Bridge, maybe part of old US65 or US60.
Bass Pro Shop will be on your own time ;)
Alternative plans would be early October 2018 or April 2019

Color me interested.
Sounds like a fun time to me. Been through there without stopping previously.
There's a paperclip icon? I don't seem to have access to it.
Same here, if it happens to be July 7 then that is 100% doable since I will be in St Louis the next day for a toy show, easy trip up I-44 for me.
It sounds wonderful but unfortunately I won't have enough vacation time in order to make the trip. Perhaps another time, should someone organize a meet in that area.

Must be something my phone did.
Only a ~5.5 hour drive one way for me, so put me down as a tentative maybe. Have to see what else I get involved in/want to do this summer. I could much more likely do it if it were in the fall or spring next year.
I'm very interested as long as the timing is right and I don't have any conflicts. However, if an Oklahoma meet is happening this year, I'll probably have to choose between this meet and Oklahoma.
Sure. I can collect some counties and miles in Missouri with this.
Jason's suggestion for July 7 sounds good to me. Otherwise, come October my vacation time resets and I won't have to pick n' choose.
It's certainly not happening for me in 2018. Fingers crossed for April 2019!

Well, I posted this to get opinions. :)
I'm going to take this off the table for 2018 and aim for Spring 2019. I'll know more in a couple weeks.
Spring 2019 sounds very doable for me. We shall see how life plays out.
Spring 2019 may be doable for me. Way too early to know, but definitely interested. I fully expect my only experience in Missouri before that point will be driving through on I-70 this summer.

I-70 was rougher than a dried corn cob when I was going up there regularly over 20 years ago. Apparently they haven't done anything to it since then.

An informal meet, but yes. I'm not sure of his exact plans. Depending on what he does I may or may not continue to put something together for next Spring.
I'll be anxious to hear more of what he has in mind. Are there a concentration of like-minded folks in Springfield that would allow him to do something mainly for locals?

I don't know of anyone besides "Alternate 71",unless he has some St Louis people interested. I might go up if I have time. He's talking 2 days including Rolla, but I don't know if that includes the Gasconade bridge.

On his personal Facebook page. He's talking Springfield, MO area: Branson on Day 1, Rolla, and possibly Lake of the Ozarks on Day 2. I have no idea if any of that will include the Gasconade Bridge (http://bridgehunter.com/mo/laclede/gasconade-66/) or the Galena Y Bridge (http://bridgehunter.com/mo/stone/galena-y/).

I gather nothing's solid on this, but I'd like (and hope) to see an event made for this but that's Gene's prerogative. I've never done Branson.

Synopsis for the refusniks:
Date: July 6, 2017 - Yes this is a Friday.
Time: 11:00 AM
Place: FD's Grillhouse, Springfield.
Tour of road sites in the Springfield/Branson area. Included: Galena Y Bridge, quirks on US 160, tour of MO 465, 19% grade on MO 176, Table Rock Dam, and tour of Old US 65 back to Springfield.

This is sadly the reason why I will probably pass.
^^ Wouldn't be the first time a meet was held in a high-humidity area. I hosted a MS/LA meet at the end of August one year that was fairly decently attended.

If I can get Thursday off to drive out to Springfield, this would work out great for me as I will be heading to St Louis on Saturday for a toy show on Sunday, Since we would be running the 66\ I-44 corridor I can continue on to STL after Devil's Elbow.

It was so hot on the day of the OKC meet a few years ago that it was almost unbearable. I had a can of Coca Cola in my car and when I got back to the hotel, the can had exploded and sticky gooness was all over my car. I would much prefer an early spring or late fall meet (or even late winter, as the 2010 Tulsa meet was in February). One advantage to not having meets in the middle of summer is the lack of pests (bugs, snakes, rabid mammals, etc) that get in the way of meets, especially when meets often include bridges which usually span bodies of water.

I had hoped to avoid too much heat by having it in June rather than July or August, but Oklahoma had other ideas.
Winter meets are kind of a crapshoot. Especially in the south-central part of the country, you may luck out and get a nice, mild day, but that could also be the one day that year that it ices up, or it is so cold that it's unpleasant to get out of the car at stops. (And you have to think about potential attendees from further north running into bad weather on the way down.) Some attendees may have problems getting time off during the winter (November to April is the casino busy season, so it's harder for me to take a few days off to attend a meet.)
April and May are good temperature-wise, but in this part of the country you may find yourself giving an impromptu course on "lowest level, smallest room, center part".

It was in the 30s that day. I don't consider that to be all that cold. It was certainly more comfortable than it would have been had it been 105 degrees like it is sometimes in July or August in this part of the country.

Yes, it was miserably hot. That's one of my big holdups in attending Gene's Missouri-fest. It was in that area that my serpentine belt broke when I was on my way to the Wichita meet (July 2013) and it was nearly beyond tolerable while I was driving without air conditioning and when I got to the location where I stopped to call the tow truck.
Well, the heat, and the fact that I had to unexpectedly burn two vacation days this week caring for a sick dog and taking her to the vet.
QuoteApril and May are good temperature-wise, but in this part of the country you may find yourself giving an impromptu course on "lowest level, smallest room, center part".
Hey, I'd be all for incorporating a meet and a storm chase into a single event!
The thing about storm chasing is that it is difficult to plan in advance. You have at most 1 week before a tornado outbreak happens to plan for it, and things can rapidly change in this part of the country and could change during that time. You couldn't plan it 6 months in advance. This would be a logistical nightmare as some would have to ask off weeks or months in advance. You might end up hitting the jackpot or you might end up having a storm chase on a hot, sunny day.

QuoteApril and May are good temperature-wise, but in this part of the country you may find yourself giving an impromptu course on "lowest level, smallest room, center part".
Hey, I'd be all for incorporating a meet and a storm chase into a single event!
Now that would be awesome, although very likely impractical/not possible, as bugo points out.
I'm willing to make an impromptu storm chase meet on little notice.
I hate to say it but its looking like I may be out for this, Steph can't get the time off and I may have a work related trip coming up next weekend.

Or a rental car. Any act of providence is not yours to deal with.
Well, I'm definitely out for this one. I had to use two vacation days last month to care for a sick dog, so I don't have enough leave time to attend either day of the meet. That clinch of US 160 in Missouri is going to have to wait for another time.
Did this ever happen?

Gene did his thing in July. I put my proposal on the back burner.
Not sure if anyone else watches "Live PD" on A&E on Friday and Saturday nights, but one of the departments they feature is the Greene County, Mo., sheriff's office. I keep waiting to see if one of their pursuits goes through a DDI, and what will happen if it does.
^ I've seen a couple such pursuits through the DDI at 44/13. No big deal, really.
