The Sauk Valley, Illinois Road Meet. This will focus on Dixon, Sterling, and Rock Falls, Illinois (collectively known as the Sauk Valley), with a focus on the old Lincoln Highway, the bridges and rail viaducts, a free section of I-88 (run by the Tollway), and a smattering of other stuff (even a drive-by of the Reagan Home in Dixon for those who bip).
Up above, please select which day(s) you would prefer for the meet.
The meet will start at 11:00 am, Central Time at Arthur's Garden Deli (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Arthur's+Garden+Deli/@41.8571086,-89.4914551,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8809ac154fc0f3d3:0xd4e4e8d073414678!8m2!3d41.8582249!4d-89.4929338) in Dixon.

Woo hoo! Another Illinois meet. :) I'm counting myself as a "maybe". My vote was for July 11.
I'll put myself down as "interested", but waaaaaaaaaaay too early to say if I'd be able to make it.
The only thing preventing me from going is personal stuff (like work or family)
Hmmmm.....very interesting. (spoken in the voice of Wolfgang the German soldier from "Martin & Rowan'Rowan's Laugh In.")
Hate to say this, but I'm not committed to this meet thanks to the Coronavirus. I'll see y'all at the OBX meet this year.
I'm interested as well. I voted for the early June dates only because I'd prefer to travel before most of the kids get out of school. However, in all honesty, it's too far out for me to say whether I could definitely attend or not.
I'll be able to tell you what weekends in June 2020 I am or am not available when it's May 2020.
June 13 is Chicago's Blues Festival. I dunno is that would make me more likely to attend your meet, or less likely.
Too soon to commit to a date. I need to look to see when Bike MS for next year is.
I voted for the June dates, may be able to tie it in with a St Louis area toy show on Sunday like I have done before with past Illinois meets
Well, I finally made a decision, based on an event I have in early June (not sure which of the two Saturdays yet), my June work schedule, and the proximity to Tim's Cincy meet. I'd like to have some time between that one and mine for those (like me) who'd like to go to both. Therefore, the meet will be June 27.

I was actually hoping it would be the week after Cincy. I was going to incorporate the two into a mega Midwest trip. Oh well. That being said, I plan to attend both as it stands right now.

I will be there!
If the Lincoln Highway convention is on the same schedule as a few years ago, this will be great. If not, despite only being two hours away, I may not be able to make it.

I had someone tell me that the LHA convention would be in Illinois and at the end of June. That said, there is nothing on the Lincoln Highway website, nor has any dates (or locations) been mentioned on the LHA's Facebook group.

Bike MS in St. Charles is that weekend, so I won't be able to attend.
Will definetly keep this on my radar, at this point I have nothing going on that weekend
Asked via e-mail, was told Joliet LHA conference is June 22-25 - Monday through Thursday. :-/ So I suppose I'll be finding a couple museums to hit in Chicago on Friday.
I know its been a while since anyone posted on here, so the date for this is June 27? If so I think I can still make this one.

Cool, just need to secure my lodging, I may do a 4 day weekend and tie in a US 30 clinch and some new counties in Iowa
I am keeping this on my radar in case COVID dies down and my wife doesn't have to work.
1. Uh oh, this is spreading like wildfire.
2. Better stay away from strangers and #FlattenTheCurve.
3. It works. Curve flattens.
4. Welp this whole social distancing thing is silly. Let's #openup the economy.
5. ... goto step 1

Anndd Bike MS was cancelled, but I still might not attend because of covid.

Some parts of Georgia seem to have never gotten past Step 2.
As for this meet, too soon for me to be comfortable. Especially since (as I noted for the Outer Banks meet) road meets don't lend themselves to even limited social distancing, which I probably will need until a vaccine is rolled out.
It took me a bit to figure this out after the curveball we got thrown a couple of months ago. The restaurant (Arthur's Deli) has a drive-thru, and there's a park with parts of an old railroad bridge over the Rock River only about 5 minutes (or less) from the restaurant. It does have picnic tables.
As such, the itinerary will be:
1. Start at Page Park, Dixon. We should be able to leave some vehicles here if we want.
2. Follow Palmyra Road to Sterling. This is the old Lincoln Highway through here, bypassed by IL-2 to the south.
3. View an old stub of the Lincoln Highway were Palmyra Road rejoins IL-2.
4. Downtown Sterling - lots of twists and turns for the routes going through here.
5. Hennepin Canal Feeder. This feeds the Hennepin Canal to the south, once intended for commerce between the Illinois River and the Quad Cities.
6. US-30 Bridge in Clinton, Iowa.
7. IL/IA-136 Bridge in Clinton, Iowa.
8. Drive back to Dixon, following a toll-free section of I-88.
9. Drive by the Reagan Home since it bips.
10. Old rail viaduct in Dixon, related to the piers we will see from Page Park.
11. Dixon Arch.
12. Back to Page Park. Total drive time is less than 3 hours. Spending time at each, we should be back to Page Park by 5 pm if we start the tour at noon.
A Facebook event will follow soon.
If this is still going to happen, and I am able to travel, this sets up well for me (even with the LHA conference being cancelled).
I would like to suggest, if I could:
- The W.F. Coan Lincoln Highway marker at the southwest junction of US 30/67 - also, going here would allow for seeing the 30/67 Liberty Square project from a few years ago
- The 1930 concrete on 27th Street near that intersection
- The Lincoln Highway "loop" that goes to the endpoint of the original Lyons-Fulton bridge
I have driven/done a lot of this so I would probably be a driver.

I heard today that Illinois plans to reopen a week from tomorrow. As long as this road meet is still on I am in for sure.
And I am still planning to road trip up from middle TN, also plan to get more US 30 mileage and some Iowa counties too
Count me in as an attendee.
Highly doubtful due to a number of reasons, but will never say never.
Updated work rules mirror the CDC/IDPH "advise against all nonessential travel" and also say personal travel must be pre-approved. Attending "events with large crowds" "may" require self-quarantine.
We'll see if this changes in three weeks. It will be deeply and stupidly ironic if I am blocked from going to the nearest meet to me in a decade.

Work dictating where you can go on your own personal time? How are they going to know if you don't tell them you went? What kind of job do you have?
A road meet with probably fewer than two dozen attendees would hardly qualify as a "large crowd."
Fear has consumed every ounce of common sense in this country.

So you're saying he should lie his way through and risk his job? You know full well that private companies are not restricted on what they can tell people to do - especially when it comes to safety. Regardless - Illinois is in a no-more than 10 mindset. Yeah that will not likely be enforced (even at this point for obvious reasons). They could be in a more relaxed state by the time of the meet but they're still going to encourage mask wearing and distancing -
something that I will abide by personally. What you and others do is up to you/them.
If you want to jeopardize your life by going Leeroy Jenkins into a pack of potentially infected people, be my guest! Do not

Not sure what Illinois' guidelines will be at that time, and the poster is apparently from an adjoining state, not Illinois. Nowhere did I say anything about lying; I merely advocated silence. Don't ask, don't tell.
I don't know how many will be at this meet. Probably somewhere closer to 10 than 20, would be my guess. The OP probably encounters more than that many people anytime he goes to buy groceries.

Well aren't you being all self-righteous? Nowhere did I say I was telling anyone how to behave. I was just questioning the restrictions on travel off-the-clock. And again, nowhere did I mention lying. I advocated silence. Unless his employer is spying on him, they'd have no way of knowing where he went on a Saturday.
There are certain things I can't do on my own time that are written into law. Personal travel restrictions on the weekends is not one of those things.
But don't worry. Unless a new, dependable automobile suddenly materializes in my driveway that I could trust to make a trip of that distance, and the ongoing funds to pay for insurance and yearly taxes, you won't have to encounter my non-masked face at this meet.
I'm still trying to get my mind around an employer telling someone that they can't go somewhere when they're not on the clock.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's illegal. If they're actually trying to block you from traveling, you should point this out to them.
On the other hand it is totally legal to tell an employee that if they travel out of state, upon their return they should be taken out of any high exposure roles (e.g. no face to face with customers), or should flat out just not come to work for two weeks. So it makes sense that they'd want to be notified before anyone goes anywhere so they can hash out the logistics of managing this.

A friend of mine was ordered by his supervisor to self-quarantine after returning from a trip - one he aborted mid-way - luckily he was allowed by the company to telework so he didn't have to eat pay or vacation time to do so. The rule is written into the company's COVID policy that if one was coming from a volatile area, they are subject to this.
Yes, the company
did not prohibit personal travel and I agree that prohibiting personal travel is wrong (legality I don't know of) but they are doing the thing they need to do to make sure everyone else working for the company is safe.
I'm not a lawyer, but if you are employed at will (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At-will_employment), your employer can probably fire you for violating a company COVID policy as long as they don't target any specific group.

Disease is still out there. People want to move on, but we're going to see a spike in cases. We need restrictions to be commensurate with what hospitals can handle. Open too much, too soon, and we'll be in crisis mode.

Kentucky is an at-will state unless you're a public employee or working under a contract, so I'm fully aware of what that means. Your employer can let you go if they don't like the color of the shirt you're wearing.
But again I ask -- how are they going to know if the poster in question says nothing? I know one person who called in sick from work to attend a meet a few years ago, did not participate in the group photo, and made no public mention of his attendance. If you say nothing about what you did over the weekend, tell no one that you went, don't allow yourself to be tagged in any social media posts, etc., it's like the proverbial tree falling in the woods.

I'd have to go back and find the stories, but last weekend I saw two reports of two separate studies -- one may have been in The Lancet, but again, I'm not positive -- that pretty much shoots down the idea that asymptomatic transmission poses a major problem.

I don't know the specifics of each individual state, obviously, but here, if you're told to stay home because of the virus, you're either entitled to paid leave, or unemployment at 100 percent of your pay plus the extra $600 per week. The employer can tell you to not report to work, but they can't require you to self-quarantine 24/7/14.
As onerous as Kentucky's executive orders have been, there have been no dictates that state employees abide by any "travel must be approved" edicts. There was a travel ban that said anyone who travels out of state for any recreational reasons has to self-quarantine for 14 days upon returning, but that got tossed out as unconstitutional. (Our governor is 0 for 3 in court challenges to his orders.) There was a simple way around that. One of the permitted activities was purchasing groceries or other essential supplies. All you had to do to technically be in compliance was to buy a bag of potato chips in the other state -- our governor often mentioned Tennessee specifically, because they had fewer business restrictions and we have more border crossings with them than any other state -- and you had bought food elsewhere.

We're straying into the off-topic discussion on this, but even during the initial surge, there was no danger of the health care system ever being overwhelmed. Kentucky had two temporary field hospitals, one at the fairgrounds in Louisville and one at the UK football practice facility in Lexington. Neither ever saw its first patient, and they've dismantled the one in Lexington. Meanwhile, hospitals were laying off or furloughing staff and had most of their beds empty.
I agree we're going off topic here so let's call that topic a wrap and get back to the subject at hand.
I am not going to make any decision at this time and may not make one until close to meet time (Try for a week). I want to gauge what's going on closer to then. I do not plan on replying in Facebook because I don't want my intentions advertised.

No activity is completely risk-free. I think most people are ready to try to move on.
Disease is still out there. People want to move on, but we're going to see a spike in cases. We need restrictions to be commensurate with what hospitals can handle. Open too much, too soon, and we'll be in crisis mode.

Arkansas is experiencing a spike in cases, even as the governor pushes to reopen everything. So far, I've been lucky. I have 2 friends in Little Rock who had it early on, but I think they are over it. I am considered "at risk" so I'm taking precautions.
Unless something drastic in Illinois happens that prevents this meet from moving forward as scheduled, I am planning to be there. I've got the Friday off from work approved and will be taking that day to drive to the area. I've got a reservation at a hotel in Rock Falls where I'll stay for both Friday night and Saturday night. I'm looking forward to this meet, exploring that area for the first time, seeing the other attendees (safely of course), and of course going on Brandon's tour. :)
Agreed, I am a 100% go and even travelling to central PA to visit family when this is done, I will be coming up on Thursday and do a US 30\ county clinching road trip on Friday, staying in the Quad Cities
Do consider attendees coming in from highly infected areas - this increases the risk. The higher risk areas are those that have high counts of net infections but also have been subject to high-density events (like the recent protests). These folks may not know it, but they could be carrying it in. These are reasons to distance.

Which is why I'm waiting until the last minute to decide. I WANT to go, but I have concerns
Still a go, hotel is booked and even got a rental booked, I have not set foot in Davidson County which has been kinda a hot spot for TN, Wilson county is fine and Steph and I have been working from home

I am from Waukesha County WI. That is not a high risk area. Nearby Milwaukee is but I haven't been there in months and I intend to stay away from it for awhile yet.
A heads up, and this will appear in the Facebook posting as well, the meeting point is the picnic pavilion at Page Drive and Chuck Vail Drive in Page Park, Dixon.

Unless you hear from me otherwise consider me going. I marked myself going on the event so you should see it as host - I refuse to share my intents to the public in this case.
No longer going - not comfortable with the situation regardless of destination.

I'm officially out. It's getting worse around here so I need to lay low..

I guess we're on the same page, then.
Report and updates from my end:
-There on US 30, IA 38, I-80, I-88, IL 26; back on IL 2, IL 40, IL 78, IL/IA 64, US 151. Have not uploaded GPS yet.
-I am glad I took a north route back because it looked like rain to the south. Did it rain on anyone still in Dixon or heading to the Quad Cities?
-My Fitbit display is dead. It still charges and tracks, according to my phone.
-27th Avenue (the old concrete in Clinton) was paved in 1929. Harrison Drive was resurfaced just last year so that's when 27th was cut off.
-The 1931 date that I also mentioned was for US 30 on Manufacturing Drive, moving it off 19th Street.
-299.5 miles for me on the day.

Five of us gathered for dinner in downtown Dixon after the end of the tour. We were there for maybe an hour and a half or two hours. Afterwards, when we parted ways, I stuck around the Dixon area for a little while longer to take some more photos of the area... particularly around downtown and Reagan's boyhood home. As I was leaving Dixon (around maybe 7:30 p.m. local time), it started to rain. Instead of taking IL-2 back to Rock Falls (where my hotel was), I just got on I-88. The rain was falling pretty heavily during most of my 13 miles on I-88, and the thunder and lightning were starting to roll through as well. Later in the evening (around 9 p.m. local time), I went through the drive-thru at the Culver's near my hotel to get frozen custard and the rain was still fairly heavy while I was doing that.
Thanks again, Brandon, for hosting such a fun meet. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was a great tour, and it was nice to catch up with some of my roadgeek friends again. It was nice for me to have the opportunity to explore the Sterling/Rock Falls/Dixon area of Illinois (since I'd never really been to those places before), and it was fun to cross the Mississippi River again into Iowa.
Also, a huge thanks to Paul for the Interstate shields he was giving away!!
I just got home. The trip home took 14 1/2 hours. I went through heavy rain between Little Rock and El Dorado, AR.
From the time I left at 3:30 a.m. Friday morning to pulling back in my driveway at 8:30 this evening, I put 1885 miles and 33 hours of operation on my car. This did include a trip to Monroe, WI Saturday morning for breakfast at Amy's Corner Cafe.
That was a fun trip! Thank you Brandon for hosting a great meet!

I left Dixon when you and the others were about to go to dinner. It did not rain any on the trip to Moline where I stayed that night. Moline didn't get any rain that evening so the storms must have formed between Moline and Dixon after I passed through.
Thank you Brandon for a fun meet!
