Title: Texas: D/FW: History of SH 114 at Grapevine
Post by: Brian556 on September 26, 2010, 03:39:47 PM
SH 114 was constructed on an old railroad bed that trackage that was never laid on. The section at Grapevine, however, did not follow this grade. Portions of the grade remained visable until they were destroyed by development. SH 114 had two former alignments in this area. The first followed what is now Business 114, cutting southeast at the Dallas Rd intersection. It then followed the now abandoned roadway SE across airport property and then onto what is now Cabell Dr.  The second alignment was the Grapevine bypass. It appears to have not been divided at first. It's aligment split from the current SH 114 at Texan Trail. Parts of Airfield Dr follow its alignment. It rejoins the current SH 114 near the Freeport Pkwy Exit. Evidence of the second alignment near Texan Tr was recently destroyed by the relocation of Airfield Dr. Another piece of it near the Freeport Pkwy exit may have been covered with dirt recently, I'm not sure.

It's hard to judge what sections became divided or controlled access when. Maps agree with each other on this about as well as my stomach agrees with chili dogs.
