Looking for a specific state road (from Bodie, CA to Las Vegas)

A few years ago I was driving from Bodie, CA to Las Vegas.
On the way there, somewhere after Mono Lake CA, I remember a long stretch of road that went through an open grazing area (cows were right next to the road, no fences or anything), it went straight through (no curves), but it went up and down again and again, like a rollercoaster. I still remember it to this day, and would like to go there once more.

When looking at Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Bodie,+CA/Las+Vegas,+NV/@37.9216874,-118.8467221,42346m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x8097ca2bfa68c0cb:0x140de8f45eae419f!2m2!1d-119.01251!2d38.2127793!1m5!1m1!1s0x80beb782a4f57dd1:0x3accd5e6d5b379a3!2m2!1d-115.1398296!2d36.1699412!3e0

I would imagine it to be somewhere along route 120 or 6.

Does this ring a bell to anyone who drove there?

Sounds like you're talking about CA 120 East. It's like a roller coaster ride. You could also be talking about CA 167 but it doesn't look like you went that way.

I agree, of the two, CA 120. US 6 isn't really that bumpy, though there are some pastural areas that sound like what you may have passed, and there are some curves when you ascend the grade into Nevada.

Sounds exactly like CA 120.  CA 120 has a huge drop from Mono Mills east to Benton Hot Springs, although I wouldn't exactly call it the straightest Highway in the world.  CA 167 on the other hand is about as straight line as it gets but doesn't have a ton of terrain variance.

The specific stretch of CA 120 is probably the 12 or so miles immediately west, or northwest, of the intersection with Benton Crossing Road.  It goes through a valley, it's straight and it traverses the terrain without any road cuts to soften the hills.  There's no visibility at all over those rollercoaster humps and I've learned to slow down driving through there because you'll have very little chance to stop if there happens to be something in the road just over a hump.

This is the segment I have in mind:
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/37.9196041,-118.7016461/California+120+%26+Benton+Crossing+Road,+CA/@37.8558759,-118.7051551,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x80bdf0a87097f419:0x4b570f3090e2ec8d!2m2!1d-118.568609!2d37.7918889!3e0

The eastern winter closure gate on CA 120 is at that Benton Crossing Road intersection, so this segment is usually closed from something like mid-November to mid-April.

Thank you for all the quick and detailed responses! I knew this was the right forum for this! :-)
It does seem that the CA 120 section right after Benton Cross Road, is the one I've been thinking about!
I'll try and plan out a road trip that includes both that road and CA 167, which I never drove through and looks interesting!
