Holiday Inn post Great Sign Assembly that was used after Holiday Inn pulled out.

The ones that amazed me the most where when British Petroleum purchased Amoco.  Many of old oblong Amoco tower signs were retrofitted with the circular BP sunshields in the middle of the oval.  All of the examples around here have been replaced, except for the one at Exit 157 on I-85 (Buckhorn Road), where the tower was simply removed and never replaced.  The one for Exit 165 on I-85 (Hampton Pointe) was replaced with a billboard that perpetually advertises the Family Fare convenience store there.  Same difference, eh?

Along I-40 in Arizona I saw a gas station which was clearly an old Texaco that had its sign which once read

[ T ] [ E ] [ X ] [ A ] [ C ] [ O ]

now reading

[   ] [ S ] [ h ] [ e ] [ l ] [ l ]

I'm not sure why they didn't put the Shell logo in front of it instead of just leaving a blank space.

Somewhere on I-85 in the northeast Atlanta suburbs is a repurposed Waffle House sign. Cannot remember where it is or what it says now.

Construction company in Dearborn Heights, Michigan reusing an old Burger King sign.  The BK that existed here was a high-school hangout for me in the late 1960s.

There are probably numerous Holiday Inn examples where the hotel became a different brand or an indie, but the hotel didn't want to spend the $$$ on a whole new sign structure.  A non-HI example of that I know of is in north Dallas, where a side-by-side Courtyard-Marriott and Residence Inn-Marriott both flipped in the last year+ to brands with Sonesta.  They managed to get permanent back-lit signage with the respective new brands, but the frames on both are clearly ex-Marriott.  An ex-Circuit City farther in north Dallas has since become a Michael's, which used the same sign frame.  The next business (a local new & used music/movies/games place that didn't last, didn't use the sign and blacked out the Michael's logo.  The building has since become a Public Storage, which also didn't use that sign.  A 7-Eleven/Laredo Taco place built on the corner in the ex-store parking lot in recent months, and elected to use the old Circuit City frame for the new c-store's sign.  Strangely, no gas price signage was attached.

Before it was a Super 8 it was the Lakeside Motel and had a really cool sign. If you look back in the GSV history you can see two different versions of the Super 8 Sign and the Walden (A Pyramid Healthcare Company) sign. Unfortunately there's no capture of the Bayside Motel sign.

I wonder if they have a new sign now that it's called Pyramid Healthcare, Inc? (I should drive by and find out.)

Pizza Hut in Jackson, Ky., closed a couple of years ago. The building was torn down and a new Walgreens pharmacy is being built on the lot. The old sign frame remains and it appears the sign is going to be used for the Walgreens signage.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I've seen the same thing happening with former auto showrooms after the dealership either relocates or shuts down completely, and the new business would also be related to motor vehicles in some form, displaying its name/logo on the dealership's main sign. For example, a driving school may occupy the site that a Ford dealer once did, or you'd probably see a body parts store like Pep Boys in an old Chevy showroom. And that's to name a few.

The old Pizza Hut on former US-70 in Beaufort, North Carolina didn't make it early on and the building was purchased by a no-name pizza joint back in 1982.  Care to guess?
No Name Pizza and Subs   I've only seen a few Pizza Huts with the wide sign with letterboard.

They've recently relocated their other pizza joint in Morehead City to where the Ruby Tuesday used to be:  No Name Pizza Grill and Lounge  They used that old sign also.
