Like the one near the airport, the one in Lake Buena Vista is just preying on tourists.

I don't see why gas stations need to post overhead prices ... does he also need to advertise them on TV, telegram to the president twice an hour, and beam them into space as part of the SETI mission? 

if you don't want to pay the price, find another station. 

(besides, if I saw a gas station with no prices on an overhead display, I'd assume they went out of business.)

In Florida at least, it's only price gouging if they overcharge during a state of emergency such as a hurricane evacuation.

I suppose in the Perkins Union, the penalty for gas gouging could be even worse than that for speeding, which is - if I recall correctly - summary roadside execution.

It is supposedly the law in this state, Tennessee, that you can only change gas prices when you get a new delivery of gasoline.  I'm pretty sure that some "independents" routinely violate this law.

I don't like price gouging.  But, like Jake, my solution is simple - avoid the vendor.

And I bet that gas station near the Orlando airport is not the only gouging going on there.  i.e. Look at the concession prices in the airport for food, drink, souvenirs, etc.

Is 5.79 gas worse than a $5 hot dog?  I think not.

I'd put a single drop of gasoline into the holding tanks, if needed, to change my prices.

exactly.  we're not talking about gouging human beings here; we're talking about gouging the sort of people who go to Orlando.  Specifically, Disneyland.  if you have the suspect morals that would cause you to be hanging out in that sort of establishment in the first place, you deserve anything that happens to you.

I agree, it is plain and simple. In Florida, a gas station can charge what they like. There is no rule about it being "reasonable". It's only price gouging if they raise prices during a declared emergency such as a hurricane evacuation. As long as there isn't an emergency, they're free to charge whatever they think the market will allow them to. And the state does prosecute instances of price gouging. The most recent I can think of was when the FlyingJ chain raised prices $1/gal or so during Ike.
