That highway was built really quick (2 yrs.) if those dates are correct.  Something like that now would take at least 4 yrs., with the destruction of the houses, fill, grading, and paving.  Of course, this is Texas and there might have been mild winters to allow a faster completion schedule plus they did not have to do any environmental studies back then.
I don't need a GPS.  I AM the GPS! (for family and friends)

Nice pics...........love seeing the before the big highway pics. But not as much as I love miles of fresh poured concrete.
