The funny one is the good on CA 152 eastbound at I-5.  For some reason there is a standard green placard like the route is ending it when it obviously meant to be the end for the scenic section of 152:

https://www.google.com/maps/@37.0566381,-120.9722302,3a,15y,134.3h,85.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sFiajF2xjERREnS_Y7tqnBA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

To me, it looks like it's supposed to have a "scenic route" sign there, under the END placard, but the sign's missing.

Probably, we talked about it once on the Pacific Southwest board.  I think the consensus was not to say anything to the local Caltrans district because we like the error and the confusion it can potentially cause.

That is deliciously evil, but in one of the most mundane ways possible. I love it.

The scenic route "end" of CA 152 on Pacheco Pass:

Haha, I like the concept of the end of a scenic route. "Yup, road's just straight up ugly after this sign. Nothing worth seeing past here."

Minnesota has begin/ends for some of its scenic routes too, though it's not consistent by any stretch of the imagination.

On Veterans Memorial Parkway in Salem NH (at Exit 1 on I-93), there is an END banner above a "center lane for left turn" diagram. Is this standard, or is this one of a kind?

Google Street View doesn't seem to show it.

Yep that's pretty standard, at least in the Midwest.

Wait, the northeast corner? I thought WIS 70 was a continuation of the short-ish MN-70...

checks map

It is, but damn, I didn't realize it practically goes all the way across Wisconsin.

Edit: Also, would've added the Minnesota end of highway 70 to this post, but I forgot until now that, when I was there, MnDOT didn't have an END sign posted.

Yeah man!  WI-70 is long!  The Minnesota stub is a tiny thing to connect the state to that long highway across Wisconsin.  It can be a shock to your Minnesota-centered perspective, just like IA-136 and WI-35 were a shock to my Illinois-centered perspective when I only knew about IL-136 and IL-35.

I was also surprised to see WI-101 extended east along WI-70 to US141, when they could have just put the northern terminus at WI-70 and left it at that.  This is a good example of a route configuration I have to confirm (i.e. accidentally discover) in the field, because no maps really show WI-101 continuing east from that junction with WI-70.

This was the trip where I accidentally discovered WI-318, too.  Lots of surprises!

It wasn't until scrolling through my camera roll yesterday or today that I realized just how sweet of a shot I got of the Georgia Highway 316 END Sign at I-85 in the Atlanta Metro Area when I was down there back in the Fall. Here are all variants and angles of the pictures.

Now alternating between different highway shields for my avatar - my previous highway shield avatar for the last few years was US 76.
