Recently in the CA 262 on the Pacific Southwest board the discussion turned to the fact that the route might have carried the most historic designations of any current California State Highway.  In the case of CA 262 it is a short 1 mile State Route but has been part of the following highways at various points; US 48, US 101E, CA 17, CA 9, CA 21, I-680, CA 238 and of course CA 262.  What other examples are out there regarding current State Maintained Highways carrying a similarly high number of historic designations?

The section of I-215 between 5th Street and the CA 259 (signed EB CA 210 presently) divergence in San Bernardino has been, at various times since its 1959 opening:

US 66 ('59-'64), US 91('59-'64), US 395('59-'73), CA 18('59-'61), I-15('59-'73), I-15E('73-'82), and now I-215('82-present).

VA 25 (1928-33)

This beats CA-262 by one.

From 1919 to present, Gratiot Ave in Macomb County carried:

M-19 (1919-26 and since 1964 north of 26 Mile)
US-25 (1926-73)
M-29 (?-1964)
M-59 (?-1995)
Temp I-94 (1964-67)
M-3 (1973-present (between 8 and 23 Mile)

It should be noted, that M-29 and M-59 was multiplexed at different times with US-25/M-3 from 20 to 23 Mile.

For Arizona I believe it is US 60 on Grand Avenue between Wickenburg and I-17.  The current route of US 60 had the following designations on it at one point:

-  Obviously US 60
-  US 70
-  US 89
-  AZ 93

US 60 east of Apache Junction to AZ 79 also had four routes with the historic US 60/70/80/89 multiplex.

The section of freeway between I-80 and Jefferson Boulevard in West Sacramento:

- US 40 (until 1967)
- US 99W (until 1967)
- I-80 (until 1982)
- Business 80 (1982 to 2017)
- US 50 (1982 to present)

The Figueroa Street tunnels north of L.A.'s Chinatown carried US 6, US 66, US 99, CA 11, and finally CA 110.

True, but we're getting act active sections of highway.

Connecticut doesn't beat VA 906, but CT 322 between I-84 and CT 10 has had 5 designations:

* NE-3 (possible later overlap SH-111)
* CT 14 (reason: 1932 renumbering)
* US 6A (designation of US 6A)
* CT 66 (cancellation of US 6A)
* CT 322 (I-691 replaces part of CT 66)

The old highway from Wagoner to Muskogee in Oklahoma has been OK 6, US 73, US 69, OK 2 and now OK 16.

I have been unable so far to find anything in MN that carried more than three and is still a state route (given MnDOT's policy about giving as many freeway-redundant surface street routes back to cities and counties as possible).

I also don't count the "spiritual successor"  stuff like, say "original"  MN 1/US 61/MN 61 from Duluth beyond to me is only two routes.

Route between today's MN 55 and I-494 east of the airport:
MN 100 (1934-1965)
MN 110 (1965-2018)
MN 62 (2018-present)

Century Avenue may have had on a stretch between Minnehaha Ave and Stillwater Blvd:
MN 100 (1934-1965)
MN 212 (1935-1983)
MN 5 (1983-2016)
MN 120 (1965-present, but is on the kill list)

I seem to remember when I was a kid in the 80's that MN 110 went to the old intersection of MN 13 and MN 55 at the east end of the Mendota Bridge. So the list of highways would be MN 55, MN 100, MN 110 and MN 62 for the brief section of highway between the old MN 13 intersection and the old 110 intersection.

I swear I thought I once saw an old picture posted from around there, but I can't seem to find it right now. Perhaps someone else knows of the one I'm talking about.

Altamont Pass has carried the most designations as in Lincoln Highway, US-48, US-50, I-5W and currently I-580.

Thing is that none of I-580 was ever part of the Lincoln Highway nor US 48.
