Title: Eastern Shore of Maryland
Post by: Mapmikey on November 09, 2014, 12:56:32 PM
Took a 14-hour U-turn to clinch Maryland routes...

Used I-95 to US 50 to Wye Mills before beginning a very long list of turns...

The US 50 cutouts at the Park N Ride at US 50/301 and MD 424 (south side) are still present.

The single-lane concrete roads of Kent County in the early days of motoring fascinate me.  In addition to some stray curve abandonments, actual open roadways with the concrete still the visible surface exist on Old MD 442 Betterton (is in center of road) and Old MD 447 Morgnec Rd where it is the EB lane for nearly the entire distance from MD 291 near Chestertown to MD 444 Chesterville (about 5 miles).  Paved over one-lane concrete strips are also still visible on all the Old MD 29x routes in Betterton and also nearby Old MD 443.

All the abandoned curved pieces still in the state highway system in Kent Co are still drivable.

In Rock Hall the MD 445 NORTH signs from both directions on MD 20 are pointing the wrong way.

I drove around via Elkton so that I could go to R and R Taqueria off Honeygo Rd northeast of White Marsh Mall.  The toll lanes on I-95 in the I-695 area are to open in December and MD 200 was opened east to US 1, although no toll rate was published on signs.

Posted Routes clinched: 19, 20, 21, 33, 288, 289, 292, 297, 298, 299, 300, 303, 309, 313, 328, 329, 330, 370, 444, 445, 446, 514, 544, 561, 566, 579, 674
Unposted Routes clinched: 449, 518, 820, 837, 855, 856, 864
Bonus Former routes clinched: 294, 296, 442, 443, 451, 661, 664

You were really close to us! (We live 2 miles from White Marsh Mall.)

Glad to hear that you got to explore Kent County and all of the old concrete there! There are a few other stray ones on the Eastern Shore in Cecil, Queen Anne's, and Worcester Counties.

Do you still have more routes to clinch up this way?

Cool! If you want to come clinch those Baltimore, Harford, and Cecil County routes anytime soon, we'd be happy to meet up with you!
