there be square fonts, series B, C, D, and E.  that should be adequate to represent most shields - the only time I've seen F is on a random Mississippi shield in the word "MISS" in the crown.

since the fonts are not tied to the layouts, you are free to make aberrations like this.

Alabama was using the square fonts as late as 1963, so ... you never know.  And it looks better than Clearview, that's for sure!

I like this shield generator. Anyways, here are some new shields I've made with it. FL A1A becomes a US highway...  :colorful:

If you noticed, I put blue and brown shields in there. The blue shields represent that it is a coastal route, and the brown shields represent that it is a scenic route.

And now California decides to do something about the I-5/10 'duplex'...:
Interstate 510 shield

I'd prefer a hyphen to be thrown in for good measure.

Jake, I hope to have you the South Carolina shield fixed up later today.  Hopefully I'll be able to convert it properly to *.svg format once I get the program reinstalled to do it.

I was planning on doing the following today:

Oregon custom font (C and D widths - Chris, your "recommended night route 101" photo is extremely helpful!)
Oregon eagle
Nebraska 1922 round font (D width)
Nebraska classic wagon
Nebraska modern wagon
California auto club bears

as those are my favorite designs

also various infrastructure updates like continuing the integration of the generator with the sales pages, which matter only if you're looking to buy a sign.  Hint hint.  Okay I'm being too subtle.

just added three widths of Oregon font, and the eagle shield design used from 1926-1974.

this shield uses a D-width font for the numbers, and for the state name, a font that is halfway between D and E in width, and almost EM in stroke thickness.  I've only seen that used for OREGON and US on shields.  The D they used on numbers, and the C width (the third font I made up) was the bread and butter of their signage starting in 1942 or so.

Jake, the South Carolina svg file should be in your inbox right now. ;)

yep, got it, thanks!  just haven't had the time to look ... my php code is acting up and I'd like a sales page, not a "error found on line 93".   :banghead:

Looks great, Jake!  One thing: you describe the earliest Oregon shields as dating to 1926, but there weren't any Oregon State Routes until 1932.  While the Highway System had existed since 1917, I don't think anything but US Routes (starting in 1926) were signed until then (1932).  Am I mistaken?

agentsteel53

no, I totally just pulled a number out of thin air!  :-D

we have South Carolina - thanks rickmastfan67 for the layout file!

question - is that color really how light the blue is?  it's significantly lighter blue than the standard (as seen on interstates).  Does anyone have a photo of one of these next to an interstate shield?
