Title: I-205 (95th Ave) Repaving and Widening
Post by: Bickendan on April 08, 2018, 08:43:45 PM
The repaving and auxiliary lane project between Johnson Creek Blvd and the Jackson Bridge has officially started.
Of note:
Northbound: Auxiliary lane addition from SE Division to I-84 westbound (with an additional auxiliary lane between Division and Washington/Stark).
Auxiliary lane addition from I-84 east to Killingsworth St (Byp US 30).
Southbound: Auxiliary lane addition from I-84 eastbound to the present aux. lane between Stark/Washington and Division.

The Stafford to Oregon City widening project is a separate project.

From the description in the above OP, it appears that the auxiliary lanes will be on the outside of the existing traffic lanes.  My question is whether ODOT is constructing an additional median lane and then shifting traffic over to that lane (an old CA trick), leaving the outside lane to be reconfigured to function as the auxiliary -- or actually constructing a new set of outside lanes (in the area between Powell and I-84, there's ample room to do so due to the space originally reserved for the old I-80N 1970's planned reroute to the Mt. Hood Freeway -- although the LR extension is occupying part of that space).  As a former resident, I'm curious as to which method is being used.

Currently, the work I've seen is along the median, and southbound shoulder around Glisan and I-84.

Sounds like a mixture of both methods.  Given the rather huge swath I-205 cuts through the East Side in that area, ODOT's probably pretty free to revamp as best they can, taking into consideration the adjacent LR facilities.

Northbound lanes between Powell and Stark have shifted right by a few feet.

Same thing happened to I-5 about a month ago between exit 290 and 288, but the 55 zone was also extended south to after 205 merged on. Notably all effects are SB.
Both are similar projects.
