Quote from: Thing 342 on July 06, 2025, 06:42:16 PMDrove US-58 through Mecklenburg County today and noticed that it now has posted mile makers every half mile, added sometime between 2023 and February 2025. Since VA doesn't usually post mileposts on US routes, does anyone know if this is just a one-off?

US 23 has them, though not border to border. They begin near the James W. Adams School at Pound and continue from there to the Tennessee state line. They are marked with the direction of travel, a miniature US 23 sign, and the milepoint. They have been there for at least 15 years.

Hey, sometimes they still have interesting info. And I still can't get into the AARoadsWiki, so I hope a lot of stuff gets passed along there.

They were tasked with designing a bridge across the railway, but the railway didn't give them enough land for a curved approach.  Hence the 90° bend.

So essentially they found a solution to the problem with what resources they had.

Quote from: The Ghostbuster on Today at 12:53:03 PMI would be fine with Stoughton Rd. having a 45 MPH speed limit for the entire duration between STH 30 and US 12/18, although I would oppose a 35 MPH speed limit. Personally, I would like upgrades of the Pflaum Rd. and Buckeye Rd. intersections into interchanges that include bridges and ramps. The roadway should be constructed similarly to the upgrades of Verona Rd. at the former signaled intersections of CTH PD/McKee Rd. and Williamsburg Way. I'd also like at least one additional grade-separation between Buckeye and Pflaum constructed (perhaps connecting Helgesen with the south frontage road, and/or connecting Allis Ave. with the north frontage road). At Cottage Grove Rd., the northbound exit and entrance ramps should be constructed similarly to how the southbound exit and entrance ramps were reconstructed from 2014 to 2016. The Milwaukee St. interchange can remain as-is. Although I would like improvements to be made at the Broadway intersection, it will likely be reconstructed as-is.

No on the bolded. In fact it should be the opposite. Verona Road needed to be upgraded like that because it is part of a regional highway that connects to points outside of Madison and therefore has a ton of through traffic.

Stoughton Road is a heavily used local road. It shouldn't develop into more like a freeway.

Quote from: Scott5114 on July 06, 2025, 09:10:25 PMMeteorology typically uses mbars for all air-pressure readings on the back end, and only translates them to inHg when communicating with the general public.
Quote from: kphoger on Today at 09:35:18 AMmmHg is not the English Customary unit for pressure.  Imperial uses psi.

Yes, as Scott had already mentioned.  But, of course, this does not change the fact that mmHg is not the Customary unit.

Weather.com still does. And I'm sure that's not the only place I've seen it.

Quote from: dbz77 on July 06, 2025, 12:20:10 PMmmHg is clearly metric.
Quote from: Scott5114 on July 06, 2025, 09:10:25 PMIt uses a metric unit, but the official SI unit of pressure is the bar (which equals air pressure at sea level).

So actually, he was incorrect on two counts:

(1)  mmHg is a metric unit, therefore its use is not an exception to the rule of using metric.  (Note that he did not claim it was an SI unit.)

(2)  mmHg is not the English Customary unit for pressure.  Imperial uses psi.

Inches of mercury used to be used for weather reporting.

I agree. We won't see any Interstate 11 signs posted until parts of US 93 between Exits 2 and 67 are upgraded to Freeway and Interstate Standards. Heck, it may take all of US 93 between the Arizona/Nevada State Line and Interstate 40 being upgraded before 11 is signposted.
