Quote from: MaxConcrete on September 19, 2024, 09:42:57 PMTxDOT is developing plans to upgrade the section of SH 105 between the existing terminus of SH 249 and SH 6 in Navasota.

The public meeting materials are posted, including a schematic.

The design shows a high-quality four-lane divided highway with no traffic signals and sufficient right-of-way to add frontage roads in the future. There is a roadway straightening at FM 762, which will leave a detached orphan section of original highway. The improvements will be toll-free, like the adjacent section of SH 249.

The exhibit board presentation (page 11) says construction could begin in 2029.

This is good to hear.  That section of TX 105 is the busiest 2-lane rural road I have ever been on.

According to the typical section, the proposed improvements would construct a four lane divided highway with a 68 ft (76 ft if you're counting yellow line to yellow line) median within a 300 ft right of way.

That would leave 78 ft on either side of the road which would more than adequate for a future freeway upgrade.

At that point, I'm not sure why you don't just transfer that mileage to 249, truncate 105, and re-extend 90 down to Brenham.
