Has anyone on the form spent time on Geoguessr? https://geoguessr.com/ (https://geoguessr.com/)
I play it a lot, usually on the world version, trying to get decent scores (15k or more) on 20 seconds per round. Recently, I completed the 10 country challenge, which I got from GeoguessrWizard's youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW5OrUZ4SeUYkUg1XqcjFYA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW5OrUZ4SeUYkUg1XqcjFYA)
It wasn't that difficult - I got 3 USA locations, 2 Brazil (which you learn has red soil), 2 Russia (which has lots of trees and semi trucks), 1 Australia (where they drive on the left and have lots of desert), 1 Germany (whose language is very distinctive), and one Japan (which was tougher).
It really doesn't take a whole lot of time to get good at it. If you're into tedious stuff, you can also move around and try to pinpoint the exact spot to get a perfect score.
I have spent a bit of time. xkcd introduced me to it.
I've only played the US map, and have liked it for the most part. Though I find it really frustrating when you get a spot with a poor quality image resolution and can't read any signs.
I've come across it before. Might have actually been from another thread here, actually.
Just guessed that one image was from Senegal just by reasoning through which countries in Africa actually have street view.
I used to until they introduced the 5 second-gap between each location and the Ad Blocker-blocker.
It appears GeoGuessr has undergone a rebirth on Youtube as many people are playing it now. I picked up the mobile version of the game (free!) and I've managed to get 3 perfect rounds on the US map. They've also been adding battle royale features against other players, which is only on the desktop version for now (coming soon to mobile).
If only they didn't EAify (make it "freenium") their software... I can only play one game every 24 hours (though I have two accounts to get around this), and any sort of multiplayer or map creation is unavailable unless you get the geoguessr pro subscription.
I played on Sporcle when I was young. I may check this out!

The mobile version is free, and you can play as many times as you want per day, but you don't get the user-created levels or the multiplayer (although it looks like that is coming soon).

I have the pro subscription. It's $2 a month. There are a lot of features that you get with pro that you don't with free. If you like the game it's definitely worth it.
After a few weeks of trying, I own the record on An Urban America (https://www.geoguessr.com/maps/5cf70d1f9f41ee4e14f8e003), my favorite map. Smashed my previous record of 6:13 - it's now 4:30.
I last tried Geoguessr about a decade ago when it was still fairly easy for first-time players to get very high scores (I think the designers initially underestimated how easy it can be for road enthusiasts and others used to WAI-like games).
I'm pretty good at it.
I used to play Geoguessr a ton about six years ago back during my freshman year of high school. We spent basically all our lunch and free periods playing all sorts of browser games like that and others on our crappy Chromebooks.
I did recently try the game again. I found some maps specific to Illinois, one for Illinois towns, and one just for Chicagoland towns, and they're pretty fun. It's annoying to see the freemium model, but if you really, really like Geoguessr, $2/month isn't too bad.
It used to be free, now they make you pay for it :banghead:
They had to move to the pay model due to Google's hike in Maps API fees.
Paying a small premium instead of being blasted with ads is worth it.

Yeah it's mostly google's fault.
