I-294 (53.42) vs I-470 (37.13)
Two 3di with tolled sections go up against each other

"Tolled section" for I-294 is an understatement.  :-D

:) Needs more... :sombrero: Not quite... :bigass: Perfect.

Yay, all of my play-ins won.

EAST:
I-295 (301.34) vs I-664 (20.21)
664 is just a cooler highway overall.  Richmond and Jacksonville aren't very exciting

I-390 (76.06) vs I-290 (59.80)
I have no really strong feelings one way or the other.  I'll go for length.

I-195 (92.64) vs I-490 (39.83)
Go Saco!

I-287 (98.72) vs I-278 (35.62)
Length again is going to win

I-376 (78.70) vs I-264 (48.00)
Pittsburgh is more important

I-476 (129.61) vs I-695 (33.97)
Just feel like 476 goes nowhere

I-395 (76.34) vs I-190 (52.39)
The DC leg is important.

I-495 (267.11) vs I-276 (29.78)
One of the few interstates that has become a national term (beltway)

MIDWEST:
I-275 (182.34) vs I-694 (30.77)
A full beltway vs. a partial.

I-480 (46.67) vs I-675 (45.29)
Cleveland > Dayton

I-294 (53.42) vs I-470 (37.13)
294 much more important in Chicago than 470 is anywhere that it goes.

I-196 (80.65) vs I-355 (32.51)
Acts more like a 2di than 355

I-475 (53.19) vs I-271 (40.22)
Cleveland > Toledo

I-435 (80.81) vs I-469 (30.83)
Highest interstate volume in Kansas and nearly that in Missouri too

I-465 (52.79) vs I-494 (42.94)
Despite being a native Minnesotan, full beltway beats half beltway

I-270 (143.47) vs I-255 (30.82)
Even just around St. Louis, 270 is more important than 255

SOUTH:
I-285 (86.78) vs I-265 (31.21)
Much busier and more important

I-635 (45.90) vs I-269 (45.19)
The Dallas portion is big and the KC version is underrated

I-485 (66.68) vs I-385 (42.16)
Higher volume

I-185 (67.00) vs I-540 (41.71)
185 might have won, but the fact that it's tolled in S.C., ewww

I-410 (49.49) vs I-610 (42.49)
Da loop.

I-165 (74.58) vs I-235 (35.66)
The OKC and Des Moines stretches are the most important

I-155 (48.06) vs I-240 (45.03)
It has the bridge.

I-840 (83.05) vs I-440 (34.37)
Outer loops in non-megacities are just kind of weird

WEST:
I-280 (114.46) vs I-225 (12.00)
Pure homer vote as 225 is less than 5 miles from my house

I-210 (61.12) vs I-335 (50.13)
335 is dumb.  That is all.

I-135 (95.74) vs I-820 (35.17)
Very important highway in a not that important area

I-680 (103.44) vs I-505 (32.98)
I'm cheering for Youngstown.  It's an underdog city.

I-215 (94.62) vs I-110 (41.28)
Arguably more important than I-15 for its length

I-580 (105.72) vs I-805 (28.02)
The Reno-Carson City drive is nice

I-880 (63.79) vs I-205 (49.61)
Iowa's 880 sabotages its California counterpart

I-405 (105.98) vs I-605 (27.40)
Another 3di that's known nationally

I'll do the first round region by region since I don't live in most of these places and need to research the routes a bit more.

Here's the east:
295 vs. 664
Some of the 295's have pretty nice bridges.

390 vs. 290
Nice scenery allows 390 to escape with the win.

195 vs. 490
The bridges win it for 195.

287 vs. 278
The NYC atmosphere takes it for 278.

376 vs. 264
That Pittsburgh approach!!!

476 vs. 695
It really shocked me how straight 476 is through some sections of its route.

395 vs. 190
The hills in Rapid City let 190 eke out the win.

495 vs. 276
No contest.

EAST
Going with I-295 over I-664, because of its variety that will grow bigger when the new Fayetteville loop is complete.

The 290-390 matchup is a toughie for me, but I'll go with I-290 for the Ike.

I'll take I-195 over I-490 for the same reasons as I-295.

I-287 may serve NJ and NY, but I'm picking I-278 for connecting to all five boroughs.

When you have an awesome skyline view and a great tunnel as the gateway to such a view, how can you not vote for it? My vote leans toward I-376 into Pittsburgh, because it fits the bill better than I-264 into Norfolk.

As much as I like the nation's longest 3di, I'm going to choose I-695 in honor of the Baltimore Beltway and its legendary status in that city.

Oh, another tough choice between I-395 and I-190...Despite my hometown of Chicago having I-190 as the spur into O'Hare, I'm picking I-395 for the spur into DC that replaced I-95 through Springfield and Arlington.

In the final matchup of the region, it's I-495 and the Capital Beltway for the win.

MIDWEST
Going with I-275, because the Cincinnati variant was the only 3di to go through three states until I-295 was extended into PA. And I love uniqueness.

I-480 over I-675 for me, in honor of the vanished spur in San Francisco.

I'll take I-294 over I-470, because Tri-State Tollway.

I-355 wins over I-196; see a pattern forming here?

I'll take I-475 over I-271, but this one is too close to call.

I'm also taking I-435 over I-469 because Kansas City has a completed loop, and Fort Wayne does not.

Indy or MSP? While both I-465 and I-494 certainly deserve to advance, it's too bad I can only pick one, and that will be I-494, because it does not have the route overload that I-465 does.

And finally, there's a Sophie's Choice in St. Louis, with the I-270 western loop facing the I-255 eastern loop. I-270 ekes out a win here, because there are more variants of it (Columbus, Denver, Washington).

SOUTH
I'm going with I-265 to pull the upset against Atlanta's Perimeter. Man, that bridge...a thing of beauty!

One day, I-269 should be completed eventually, but until that happens, I'll pick I-635.

I-485 and I-385: I'm taking Charlotte over Greenville, because not only is it a shiny new beltway, it is such a joy to drive.

I'm going to go with I-185; as nice as I-540 around Raleigh is, it gets docked major points for being signed on an outer beltway that's still under construction.

I-610 over I-410, because Houston > San Antonio.

I'll take I-165 over I-235, thanks to a new addition in KY.

I'm going with I-240, because the Asheville variant alone is more scenic than either version of I-155.

Also, it'll be I-440 over I-840, as neither version of the latter is completed at this time.

WEST
I'm taking I-280 over I-225, simply because it covers all of the western parts of the Bay Area.

I-210 gets my vote, as it was one of my most-frequented routes from my time living in L.A.

I-135 wins over I-820, as it's a nice, long spur running up the middle of KS.

I-680 reigns supreme over I-505, because it mirrors I-280 on the eastern side of the Bay Area.

I-110 gets the win over I-215, because the Vegas version of the latter is not completely signed.

I-805 in San Diego or I-580 in the Bay Area? I'm sure I-580 will win, but I'll go with I-805 because it goes through my wife's hometown.

I-880 squeaks by I-205, because of its strong presence in Oakland and San Jose.

I-405 wins for me because it not only exists in all three states, but it also serves the largest cities in each of them (Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle).
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Mid-Week Scores Update:

Some observations:
- I-196 and I-355 are currently tied, with a 4-4
- I-485 have a 7-0 lead over I-385
- I-610 have a 7-0 lead over I-410.
- I-405 have a 7-0 lead over I-605.
- I-110 have a 6-1 lead over I-215. This one is a shocker to me, as I thought I-215, with its Riverside/San Bernardino loop and 3/4 beltways along Vegas and SLC would win over I-110's Long Beach-Downtown LA-Pasadena and 4 other very short variants in small cities along I-10.

We all know Hennepin, IL is the most important city to get its own 3di spur into it.

Here's the rest of my picks (had some time today):

Midwest:
275 vs. 694
Easy win here.

480 vs. 675
Downtown Omaha section looks cool.

294 vs. 470
Slightly better scenery.

196 vs. 355
Man, is the entire Midwest region full of duds? 196 only made it out against 355 because of that cool interchange with US 131 in Grand Rapids.

475 vs. 271
Another snooze fest, but the Flint section looks interesting (in a creepy way) so it gets the nod.

435 vs. 469
Pretty hills compared to what's possibly the boringest 3di on earth at first glance.

465 vs. 494
Holds Indiana's freeway system together.

270 vs. 255
255's bridge over the Mississippi is nicer than 270's.

South:
285 vs. 265
That bridge and tunnel are stunning.

635 vs. 269
Easy win, even though I like Memphis.

485 vs. 385
The new northern section is really nice-looking.

185 vs. 540
The former 540 in Arkansas is pretty, but even the rest is enough to overcome 185.

410 vs. 610
My favorite 3di wipes the floor, although it is sad it has to do this to 410. I can see this one winning it all.

165 vs. 235
I like its atmosphere in OKC and Des Moines.

155 vs. 240
I have some memories on 240 from my childhood.

840 vs. 440
I like how 440 looks in Nashville, besides, 840 is too far away from Nashville to be an efficient bypass.

West:
280 vs. 225
Was NOT expecting it to be that gorgeous.

210 vs. 335
Ditto.

135 vs. 820
Rooting for the home team here. Also, has express lanes.

680 vs. 505
505 got its butt kicked on the scenery front.

215 vs. 110
Count me as another person on the 110 bandwagon, as some of my earliest roadgeek memories are on 110 in Baton Rouge.

580 vs. 805
Poor 805.

880 vs. 205
Dunno.

405 vs. 605
I'll take the three 405's here over 605.

EAST:
I-295 (301.34) vs I-664 (20.21)
Too many iterations of 295 for 664 to overcome.

I-390 (76.06) vs I-290 (59.80)

I-195 (92.64) vs I-490 (39.83)

I-287 (98.72) vs I-278 (35.62)

I-376 (78.70) vs I-264 (48.00)
The exit from the Fort Pitt Tunnel into downtown Pittsburgh is hard to beat.

I-476 (129.61) vs I-695 (33.97)

I-395 (76.34) vs I-190 (52.39)

I-495 (267.11) vs I-276 (29.78)

MIDWEST:
I-275 (182.34) vs I-694 (30.77)

I-480 (46.67) vs I-675 (45.29)
Clinched the Omaha section.

I-294 (53.42) vs I-470 (37.13)
While I have been on much of 294, 470 gets the nod having clinched 2 out of the 3 versions.

I-196 (80.65) vs I-355 (32.51)

I-475 (53.19) vs I-271 (40.22)

I-435 (80.81) vs I-469 (30.83)
Probably the 3di I've been on the most times (670 is probably up there too)

I-465 (52.79) vs I-494 (42.94)

I-270 (143.47) vs I-255 (30.82)

SOUTH:
I-285 (86.78) vs I-265 (31.21)
Going with the full beltway. Also Pascual Perez.

I-635 (45.90) vs I-269 (45.19)
Been on both versions, and clinched the KC a number of times.

I-485 (66.68) vs I-385 (42.16)

I-185 (67.00) vs I-540 (41.71)

I-410 (49.49) vs I-610 (42.49)

I-165 (74.58) vs I-235 (35.66)

I-155 (48.06) vs I-240 (45.03)

I-840 (83.05) vs I-440 (34.37)

WEST:
I-280 (114.46) vs I-225 (12.00)
Going with the one I've clinched.

I-210 (61.12) vs I-335 (50.13)
This one is probably a lost cause, but it gets home state bias. I've clinched it, and the scenery is beautiful as it enters the Flint Hills

I-135 (95.74) vs I-820 (35.17)

I-680 (103.44) vs I-505 (32.98)

I-215 (94.62) vs I-110 (41.28)

EAST:
I-295 (301.34) vs I-664 (20.21)
I haven't travelled any of these routes, but bridge-tunnel combos are too awesome to pass up.

I-390 (76.06) vs I-290 (59.80)
I have to pick 290 for the Chicago rendition.

I-195 (92.64) vs I-490 (39.83)
Arguably cheating, but I'm picking I-490 in anticipation of the O'Hare Bypass.

I-287 (98.72) vs I-278 (35.62)
Nice long route. Yup, that's about all I can say here.

I-376 (78.70) vs I-264 (48.00)
Just because.

I-476 (129.61) vs I-695 (33.97)
Not a Baltimore kinda guy.

I-395 (76.34) vs I-190 (52.39)
I-190 serves some good destinations in most of its renditions.

I-495 (267.11) vs I-276 (29.78)
Let's root for the underdog here!

MIDWEST:
I-275 (182.34) vs I-694 (30.77)
Anything that helps avoid Detroit...

I-480 (46.67) vs I-675 (45.29)
I'd enjoy the I-675 drives more.

I-294 (53.42) vs I-470 (37.13)
Iconic.

I-196 (80.65) vs I-355 (32.51)
Two 3DIs that I've (almost) travelled in their entireties! Think I'm gonna swing for the hometown hero this time.

I-475 (53.19) vs I-271 (40.22)
Toledo!

I-435 (80.81) vs I-469 (30.83)
Full circle beats half circle.

I-465 (52.79) vs I-494 (42.94)
Heavy-hitter for those down-south road trips.

I-270 (143.47) vs I-255 (30.82)
I-270's full circle around Columbus gives it an edge.

Just gonna rapid fire the rest, because most of these I've probably never even heard of nor travelled on.

EAST:
295 over 664. I-295 has a couple of pretty nice roads in Virginia and Jersey, can't speak to the rest.

290 over 390 - one is nothing without the other.

195 over 490. 195 takes you to the shore. 490 takes you to... Rochester?

287 over 278 - do I actually need a reason for this one? 278 is hell.

376 over 264. The Penn-Lincoln is pretty cool, and 264 seems meh. Plus, home-state advantage...

476 over 695. The Northeast Extension is a 70mph road that PennDOT would put 55 signs on in three seconds, and I kind of love that. And again, I'm going to have to play the Pennsylvania card.

395 over 190. 395 is just a fun road through Connecticut.

Which to choose? On the one hand, Pennsylvania has to win. On the other hand, the LIE, Boston's 495, and the DC Beltway are all solid roads, and I-276 should probably not exist. I guess I'll go with I-495.

Don't care enough about the rest to have a valid opinion.

Saturday Evening Scores Update:

I'll post the final results tomorrow afternoon, and start the second round then.

I'm not going to vote for all of them, because I don't have strong opinions about many of the matchups at this stage, but maybe I can break some ties.
