PennDOT - District 6 News: Overhead Sign Removal Scheduled Tonight on I-95 North in Northeast Philadelphia

QuotePhiladelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that overhead sign removal will take place tonight, May 7, on northbound Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Tuesday, May 7, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a right lane closure will take place on northbound I-95 between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue interchanges.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. This operation is weather dependent.

The core borings are part of PennDOT's $268 million I-95 Section BS2 project to reconstruct I-95 between Carver an Margaret streets and improve the Bridge Street Interchange.

The US 60 corridor would benefit from being tied into the new two-lane (four-lane ultimate) Kevil-La Center alignment. Traffic counts decline the further west of Paducah you travel (11,600 near Paducah, 4,800 west of Kevil, 3,000 north of Wickliffe) before increasing again north of Wickliffe (5,300) towards the Ohio River bridge. Of that, 27% of traffic is trucks.

KYTC has more recently reconstructed the pavement of US 51/US 60 north of Wickliffe. I wish it had provisions for guardrails and other safety improvements, but it's adequate for the traffic it has now.

Quote from: Scott5114 on May 04, 2024, 02:48:54 PMHow exactly do you remove a gravel road when the unimproved ground surface in an area is basically gravel? It seems like, short of running a barrier of some kind over it, it would be pretty difficult to avoid people making their own RIRO access point if they really wanted one there.

That's what r/w fencing is for.
I thought it was mostly to keep animals out.

In most cases, it's to keep people out.  After all, deer can easily leap the standard r/w fencing you see in most places.
Now there are exceptions.  Some western states put taller fences along interstates in areas where they're trying to funnel migrating elk thru undercrossings.  But for the most part, the r/w fence is intended as a barrier for humans and their vehicles, be they road-legal or of the off-road variety.

CSX (Y202) serves Kentucky Electric Steel (Steel Dynamics) at Coalton one day per week.

Trash trains (Y206) stopped serving the landfill at Princess in 2016 because of environmental issues, illegal permitting, and complaints. The line previously served a brickyard at Princess but that was torn down for the landfill rail yard.

Never one to pass up an opportunity for pedantry, that work is being done the Minnesota side of the bridge, so as a "Wisconsin Notes" thread... ;)  :-D

OKC area got some 70 mph winds. Here's what those do to an Eagle signal head.

No matter what happens in OKC, OK-3 ends up being there too.
