Title: Flooding - Here in TN, where else
Post by: mightyace on May 01, 2010, 07:21:03 PM
It's been raining massively in TN today and there are many highways including the interstates are closed due to flooding.

I-24 is closed in at least two points east of the I-24/40 split.

I-40 is closed between Nashville and Memphis as there are multiple places where the road is covered with water.

The local news showed the I-24 places where many cars are submerged.

TDOT is not very specific on what IS the incident. It doesn't even tell you why it is closed.

Click on the check box by "Cameras" on the left side of the screen.

One flooding example, at the moment I wrote this.

I know oncoming darkness will make these cameras nearly useless.

I was watching all this on the Weather Channel. Absolutely amazing just how much water fell on Nashville! The freeways there looked like lakes, not just rivers! :wow:

A lot of the worst is over.

All interstate are now open again in Tennessee. (http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/)

In Davidson county only two sections of Briley Parkway (TN 155) were still closed.

However, Nashville's bus service has been shutdown since Saturday and is scheduled to reopen Thursday as one of their maintenance/storage facilities was flooded.  (It is right on the Cumberland River)

I actually saw this happen live.  A pre-fab building floats down to the interstate and then breaks up.  This happened on I-24 @ Bell Road (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=antioch+tn&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=49.891082,58.007813&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Antioch,+Davidson,+Tennessee&ll=36.044397,-86.659319&spn=0.012544,0.014162&z=16)

Building Floats Down Mill Creek, I-24 (http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/category.asp?C=125220&clipId=4750146&flvUri=&partnerclipid=&topVideoCatNo=85299&autoStart=true&activePane=info&LaunchPageAdTag=homepage&clipFormat=flv)
