KNX-1070 NEWSRADIO: Couple's Engagement Stops Traffic–Literally–In West Covina

QuoteWEST COVINA (CBSLA.com) – A couple's unusual engagement stopped traffic–literally–on a West Covina freeway Sunday afternoon.

QuoteThe California Highway Patrol said hundreds of motorcyclists shut down the eastbound lanes of the 10 freeway at Barranca Avenue for one minute to celebrate an unidentified pair's marriage proposal.

QuoteA video of the incident, which was posted on YouTube, showed a man presenting a woman with a ring, motorcyclists doing wheelies and the popping of a pink smoke bomb in the middle of the highway.

QuoteOfficials said the motorcyclists conducted their own traffic control enforcement and ran red lights, along with stop signs.

That's right.  Some A-holes decided to put on a sideshow on Interstate 880 in front of the Oakland Coliseum over the weekend stopping all northbound traffic for a few minutes.  Hopefully the CHP catches some of these idiots, throw their asses in jail, confiscate their cars and suspend their licenses indefinitely.

It's when a bunch of idiots in "modded" cars (they look pretty junky in the videos) take over a street and start doing donuts.  Apparently it's a phenomenon started by car enthusiasts to show off their work but it's been taken over by the "urban youth" for self-promotion.  These types of events also draw in the street gangs and their illicit activity.

For the longest time, these planned and promoted events were limited to the streets of Oakland late at night but this one took place on Interstate 880, one of the region's busiest freeways in broad daylight.

Actually came from the days of the big-tent circus, where other small tents to the side had a small show, often frivious, thus becoming a sideshow.

I so thought that was common knowledge that I assumed Agent Steel was being sarcastic.  Sorry, sir, for making that assumption.

I'm behind on my Oakland gangsta studies, so I had never heard the term before, as it relates to posturing morons.

I would have thought, though, that they'd be wanting to call themselves a "main attraction", as opposed to self-relegating to frivolous status.

I'm not going to lie, I thought the I-10 hold-up was awesome, and the I-880 hold-up amusing, even though I don't like the ricer mod-my-Accord car culture.  Despite that, I respect and understand the authority's actions against them.

Anyways, real life Son's of Anarchy anyone?

That stuff is even worse in the midwest.  Just stay away from the STL in the month of September when those kids put on Ride of the Century - its so out of hand that the last one got top story media coverage by all 3 TV news stations for the entire weekend.  Videos that come out of the event have seen at least 1M views on youtube and that one did almost 5M before it was taken down.  What happened in California was tame.
