NJ55 to NJ42, same thing. slight speed drop.
Except it drops to one lane before the merge with 42 and there is perennial congestion there. The reverse movement (42 to 55) *is* smooth, with a speed *increase*.

There is a rare time when I can maintain freeway speeds going from 55 to 42.  Almost guaranteed someone in front needs to slow down to 45 or 50 mph, and once that happens, everyone is forced down to that speed or less until there's a gap in traffic.

When 42 to 55 was first constructed in 1985 or so, it was only a 1 lane ramp.  Once they widened that to 2 lanes around 1999, the problem disappeared.  Unfortunately, rush hour traffic in the afternoon & shore traffic (PA Drivers) can sometimes make reaching 65 on Rt. 55 a bit tough, but otherwise the connection is smooth.
