The Muskogee Turnpike northern section is now signed at 80.  I saw the signs on Big Rig Travels live feeds today.

Hopefully they will continue to increase "upgraded"  sections to 80 mph as they occur.

I suppose it's possible that there's some sort of legitimate speed study or something going on that makes some of these OK to get the bump and others not. Could be something like variations in 85th percentile speed, for instance.

Also, the signs are now up from Oklahoma City west and north on I-40 and I-35 officially raising the speed limit to 75.  I'm not sure about heading south and east.

I35 south has been marked at 75. Drove it Monday.

I drove I-44 and the section between US-81 and the Norman Spur has been increased to 80 mph. Looks like the change occurred sometime between June and July of this year. Southwest of the US-81 exit, the speed limit decreases back to 75 mph.

Speaking of which...

"On Thursday, the speed limit increased to 80 mph on the I-44/H.E. Bailey Turnpike between Chickasha and Lawton.

According to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA), maintenance crews installed new signage along a 59-mile portion of the I-44/H.E. Bailey Turnpike between Chickasha and Lawton in Comanche, Caddo, and Grady counties.

The OTA Board approved the 5 MPH increase in April of 2023.

Officials said the section of the I-44/H.E. Bailey between Lawton and the Texas state line will remain posted at 75 mph at this time."

I saw a news story about the speed limit increase on a local KSWO-TV news broadcast yesterday. I'm surprised the speed limit change took this long, not that I really care. 75mph is fast enough for me. Any higher than that and the gas mileage in my truck starts going to hell. My pickup seems to do best in the 55mph-65mph zone.

I'm not surprised OTA would leave the portion of I-44 from Lawton to the Red River still signed at 75mph. That cheaper cable barrier separating the two directions of traffic has to be an issue. There is a lot of old pavement on that section of turnpike as well. BTW, it's a relief they finally got finished re-building the Walters exit.

Probably phasing... other stretches of Turnpike that Oklahoma has increased has that same cable barrier treatment. I imagine this stretch of I-44 will be increased to 80 mph in the coming years.
