I-90 the whole way. Takes barely more than 2 hours.

We have a winner. However just a warning, you won't see the empire state building or central park if you take this route.

You can't see Central Park from I-95 either, can you?  And is the view of Empire State from it all that great?
Keep right except to pass.  Yes.  You.
Visit scenic Orleans County, NY!

There are many different options, but what is the best one?

Depends on where in the respective areas the start/stop points are and traffic.

Seconded. I've done all of those routes; I don't think any of them are the best, just some are least worst given traffic in CT/NY, time of day, etc. My default is 90-84-91-95, though, so that's what I voted.

First time I went to Boston I remember entering Massachusetts and then thinking I'm in Boston already seemed like it took an hour and a half or so.

Ha, how did I know this was coming?

I've been to MA, but not Boston. It's near the top of my bucket list so hopefully I'll be able to assess its greatness for myself someday soon.

Best route, Boston to NYC:

I-93 North to I-89 North to NH/VT 9 West to VT 279/NY 915G to NY 7 West to NY 22 South to I-90 West to Taconic State Parkway South to Saw Mill River Parkway South to Henry Hudson Pkwy/NY 9A South.

Make sure to stop in scenic Worcester on the way :D

For Boston vs NYC, I prefer NYC a bit more, though both cities are miles better than where I am.

Ketchup99

I have to vote for I-95 to I-91 to I-84 to the Mass Pike, but if traffic is bottled up in Stamford, as it seems to be half the time, obviously the Merritt is the better choice up to 91. The Merritt is honestly a beautiful road.

That almost works, but unfortunately NY 10 ends in Deposit and doesn't make it to I-95. You'd have to take NY 17 and I-87 to get to I-95.

There is a shorter one that works: I-90 to US 5.  Backtrack to Northampton to MA 10, then follow MA/CT 10 to I-95.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Usually from Maine to NYC (or NJ) for me:

- If I'm driving, I'll usually take (starting from Worcester) I-90 / I-84 / I-91 / CT 15. Once at the NY state line, the road I choose depends on where my final destination is and traffic conditions, though I've only been to/through NYC 4 times as of April 2021.

- Next time I go around the NYC area (or pass by), I want to try in CT, I-84 / CT 8 / CT 15 but not sure if that is a good route due to I-84 / CT 8 interchange work.

- If I'm travelling with the basketball team via bus (last two times was to NJIT and Stony Brook), they usually continue on I-91 SB until the I-95 interchange and follow I-95 to the NY border, since commercial vehicles are prohibited on the Wilbur/Merritt Pkwys. The buses that do go through NYC, avoid the Cross Bronx Expwy and get off at I-287 to I-87 South to merge back onto I-95 towards the GWB to NJ (or wherever they need to go in NYC).

-  On our last NJIT trip (2021/01/10), our bus for the return trip used I-95/I-395 through Connecticut. The bus driver claimed that was faster than going through Hartford... though I'm probably guessing he needed a rest stop along the way as we stopped at a rest area on the CT Tpke after the I-91 interchange.

RobbieL2415

I-95 ->Cross Westchester Expwy (I-287) -> Palisades Pkwy -> GWB -> West Side Highway
Only downside is you have to use surface streets at the end of the Palisades to reach the GWB.
