Motorsports commentator Bob Jenkins died last week of cancer at age 73. As someone who grew up in the era when he was calling races, this is sad news.

Olive Garden must be stopped.  I must stop them.

Don't @ me. Seriously.

I was wondering what happened to him after NASCAR moved to it's current TV contracts, sad to hear.

Yeah, just read this last week.

Jenkins was chipper and energetic, but never overpowering of the situation and respectful of others in the booth/pits.

Truly a legend in broadcast motorsports television and radio. He's created memorable NASCAR and IndyCar moments that gearheads from the days of ESPN Speed World and Versus/NBCSN's IndyCar eras will talk about for a long time. So many quotes, you literally could write a bible and call it "Jenkins-isms".

Sadly, the magic that Bob referred to before ESPN signed off their final NASCAR Cup broadcast in 2000 has departed.

May his spirit be cherished by his closest beloved; may it swell in the people who appreciated his contributions to motorsports; Bob left us, but his spirit lives on. May it continue to burn brightly in Bob's family and their offspring. Thank you, Bob, for bringing us these memories. For without you, there would have been no magic. Fans wouldn't have turned on that blocky box television on Sunday afternoon with friends at the house cracking open some cold ones and hearing the glorious introduction that most knew so well:

The majority of us at AARoads.com may never fully know how much Bob Jenkins has meant. It may take time for us to grasp the extent of his legacy. For this, I know he's in a better place. He's stepped up into the commentator's box, and wait? Who's the fellow next to him that was paired up with Ned Jarrett? Oh, yes. That's Benny Parsons. Now the two prepare for perhaps the greatest motor race in the heavens, and damn, what a race they will call. The greatest legends of motorsports meeting together for the grandest race in front of a delighted crowd. The roll call of NASCAR's past beckon.

Gearheads, pour out your glass. Raise it high and make a heavenly toast to Bob Jenkins.

Years from today when seventy nine races have been run, we'll remember the name: BOB JENKINS, the best broadcaster in modern NASCAR and IndyCar history.

So long, Bob. We'll see you in the greatest victory lane ever: heaven.
Finally upgraded to Expressway after, what, seven or so years on this forum? Took a dadgum while, but, I made it!

Great post. Bob was a legend in the sports broadcasting world, not just motorsports. He was absolutely iconic.
