Off-Topic / Layoffs at Tesla
Last post by bing101 - Today at 01:33:44 AM
Apparently 10% of Tesla is cut from their operations. Also the issue here is that Elon Musk is the CEO of multiple companies at the same time how does he manage all of his operations from SpaceX, Tesla, and X.  Also he comes off as overrated depending on which companies the news is talking about at that time.

My university switched to having one of the classroom buildings be card-access only. This isn't a bad thing in itself.

However, with most of the new card readers they installed, the card reader is on the left side of the door, and the left door unlocks, requiring people to walk on the left side through doors despite walking on the right side being considered normal.

Looks like the state highway shield got a redesign. I personally don't like it much standalone, but I've seen it on BGS plans and I really like it there.

I'm roughly equidistant from both I-17 and I-210 in CA.

The only way to take road pictures. There's typically much more to look at on the sides of the road than in the sky.

Quote from: ZLoth on April 14, 2024, 09:04:38 PMTo that grade school/junior high/high school teacher who insisted that calculators be banned and that we had to figure it out manually, with the reasoning that you would never carry a calculator around with you... how many scientific calculator apps are available for download now? Of course, because of cheating and such, there are only certain calculators that are approved for major exams, and they better have no WiFi connectivity.

Not to mention that, in the real world, anyone that cares about your answers being right would absolutely prefer you to use a calculator rather than relying on your thirty-year-old memories of the times table. When I worked as a casino cashier they supplied one of those huge ten-key adding machines for each cashier window. We were encouraged to use it any time we had even a shadow of a doubt that we had the total right. Better to take a minute to punch up the total on the ten-key than to think you have it right and overpay someone.

Quote from: roadman65 on April 15, 2024, 09:57:14 AMIs it my understanding that Y suffix routes in the commonwealth are designated for spur or branch routes connecting other highways?

Y routes have been used to do two things in Virginia:

1. connect two routes, usually (but not always) in a Y-intersection setup
2. short spurs of a route to a town/village

Virginia no longer designates new Y routes.  The last one was added in the 1970s.

We railroaders prefer to spell it as "wye-intersection".
