Quote from: WillWeaverRVA on April 09, 2024, 01:38:59 PMThere's no ROW there except for the power lines. There is absolutely no way you can put a freeway there.

I respectfully disagree.  Agree that there is no room there now, but
the four 230 kVA lines are carried by lattice steel pylons that date
to the 1960's or maybe 1950's, and form a "beltway" of those lines
across Montgomery County and Prince George's County.  I think it may
be possible (if the old pylons will be replaced) to move the structures
that carry the phase conductors ("wires") to both sides of the
right-of-way and put a road down the middle, where the transmission
line pylons are now. PEPCo has very recently added a new line (looks
like 230 kVA) on steel poles the edge of that same right-of-way (while
keeping the old pylons) north of Gaithersburg (which crosses I-270
between Watkins Mill Road and Middlebrook Road) which is right up
against the trees.

I-55 in St. Louis area crosses the Mississippi River on the "Poplar St. Bridge". I-70 now has its own bridge.

Found this on my travels... I don't recall SR-694 having a toll. :pan:

Traffic Control / Re: Erroneous road signs

I don't have any pictures of this, but earlier tonight, I saw erroneous VA-230 shields approaching the route from SR-621 EB.

They used Secondary shields, likely on the other side of the intersection as well.

Quote from: vdeane on April 27, 2024, 05:14:03 PMA couple money-related ones.  One is the short expiration cycle for rewards points at Price Chopper/Market32/Market Bistro.  The checkouts only give the option to use them when you have more than 500.  You can use them before, but have to specifically request it, so I usually wait until then unless I see that some are expiring.  Well, I somehow missed the thing on my receipts mentioning points expiring (either it's gotten less obvious or I got so used to hitting 500 before this happens that I've stopped checking as vigorously as I should) until I finished checking out today, and now I have a few points expiring by the end of the month with no way to use them in time.

Well, yeah, the purpose of loyalty points is not to give you stuff for free, it's to keep you coming back.  Putting limitations in the way of redeeming the points keeps the program from costing them too much.

Sure, but normally I'm good about avoiding such things (and the BS fees that lots of companies structure in to make more money).  I take a lot of pride in avoiding such things, so it hurts so much to be hit by it this time (even if the actual financial impact is only 31 cents).

Also, your post reminded me of the episode of Ghosts where Trevor's brother exploited a loophole in the Woodstone Rewards program to live there for free.

Canada / Re: Quebec's Highways

At this point, I think we can comfortably say that Québec has the lowest speed limits in all of Canada (the Oregon of the North, I suppose, although even Oregon has 70 now).  Didn't the PQ propose raising the limit to 120 in the last election?

I sincerely hope ADOT plans repave the SanTan Freeway in Gilbert soon. The noise is just deafening.

I-515 at Galleria now has several North and South I-11 directional signs replacing previous I-515 shields, although they appear to be replacements - there is no case of both I-11 and I-515 being signed concurrently.

Interestingly, it's not a 100% replacement. Some signage still has the I-515 shields.

Got around to posting a lot of what I shot yesterday for the Gateway Expressway.

SR 686A: https://www.aaroads.com/guides/fl-686a/
SR 690: https://www.aaroads.com/guides/fl-690/

Also added photos covering US 19 south at SR 690, SR 686 west at CR 611 and started updating I-275 to show the new Express Lanes and signage for the Gateway Expressway before running out of time.

I'll get to the rest of I-275 at SR 690 and CR 611 south at SR 686A soon.
