I have done a search and had a quick browse in the profile pages, but haven't found anything to indicate what the maximum allowable dimensions (in pixels) are for an avatar.  My avatar has disappeared for the time being and I would like to replace it with a new one, but need to know the pixel limits in order to avoid browser resampling.

Sorry about the avatar disappearances--they were a rather large part of the database and if we had had to restore them as well, we probably would still have the forum down.

Many thanks for this info--I did manage to find the avatar I had been using before, but decided to remaster it instead of reuploading it since the dimensions are irregular (63 x 59) and I was not sure the sunflower design was centered symmetrically.

I was unable to upload my avatar after the upgrade, and had to hotlink to it from an image on my site. Was this a temporary thing or are is all image hosting, including avatars, now blocked from the forum?

If you tried uploading the image you are hotlinking to right now, it was probably rejected because it is too big--656 x 901.  In fact, you'd probably have a moderator sticking width or height directives to the image tags if you posted it to the forum!

If you resample down to 65 pixels maximum in each dimension, it should upload.  I uploaded mine successfully.

Edit:  Since the image is hotlinked from your site, (1) forum users need to load the full image when they read a thread you have posted in, even though it will render on their browsers with less than a hundredth of the pixel count, and (2) the bandwidth consumed to load the redundant data is charged against your hosting account.

Exactly why I don't hotlink my photos in here.

I'm not worried about it. I've never incurred a monthly charge in excess of the standard.
